I have a '94 Dakota with a 3.9L motor in it
that has had a number of mods done to it. It's
not the quickest thing on the street, however,
It is not to be scoffed at by any means. It
has a bit of cam, ported heads, modified V8
T.B., Jacobs ignition, JBA headers, a true 3"
exhaust, 3.90 ring & pinion w/Sure grip, and
has been lowered a couple of inches. This
thing on the Dyno put out 200 rear wheel H.P.
and about 217 ft./lbs. of torque. That's not
super impressive, however, the motor is very
docile, smoggable (I live in California), and
has about 20 rear wheel horsepower than a
stock G.T. Mustang. It is enjoyable to see
an owner of a G.T. Mustang struggle against a
V6 powered Dakota.
Recently, I have added a Powerdyne Super-
charger to this motor. It really woke up!
This truck is capable of high 13 second 1/4
mile times with the way I have it set up.
It now puts the hurt on the Ford Lightning.
These little motors can kick ass if they are
set up properly and you know what you are
doing. If you don't know what to do, get
help from someone who does. Talk to Randy
at Worldwide Performance in Florida, or go
to KRC Performance also in Florida regarding
supercharging. Hughes Engines in Illinois
is also a good source for performance parts
for Magnum engines.
Keep in mind, the V6 is the same as the
V8 pretty much with a few minor differences.
I have seen 318s built with factory parts
with the exception of headers and a moderate
hydraulic cam in old A-body cars that ran
well into the 12s in the quarter. The V6
built properly is definitely worthy of
respect despite the negative talk of ig-
norant people.
