The only thing I know of for the 89 is a jet chip
but get the stage 2 if you get any piston ping
just go with a set of colder plugs and themo

The stage 2 will run on a stock set up unlike jet
recomends

larry i,ve heard jet does,nt work that well on most trucks.

i,ve checked some of the reviews most say it,s a waste of your money.but all the reviews have been on newer trucks.

do you know how jet works on the 89,s 4x4,auto?
my local dealer says he can flash my pcm for about
$20.takes around half hour,BUT HE ALL SO SAYS THIS
COULD HURT NOT HELP THE PERFORMANCE.
he did,nt say if he could curve the timing and fuel.

i called B&G they don,t do it anymore.not cost affective.they have to cut the old chip out and soldier a new one in.

i,m wondering how the pcm from a 89 ram would work.why i say this is 2 yrs back i helped my son
put a 5.2 in his ram that had a 3.9,the 5.2 ran great on the 3.9 pcm until it hit about 70-75 mph
then it would either shut the fuel and/or rev limiter down and the truck would buck until you got back down below 70mph.

if this was the case i,d buy a pcm for the 89 shelby dak and put it in my truck, problem solved.
but i don,t want to spent $500 for maybe at B&G

any thoughts or ideas would be greatly appeciate

thank-you

Your right the jet chip is a hit or miss.

I was lucky and got one that actually worked it
helped a little.

KRC Websters Garage and a few others used to flash
the 92 to 95 for the V6 but will not do it anymore

I don't even know anyone with that year truck that
has a jet chip.

I will be pulling my 88 ram in the garage in a
week or so let me take a look how its set up and
maybe I can figure out some ways to performance.

I have never done anything to the truck except
replace the fuel pump at 167,000 it always ran
good and got about 20mpg 3/4 ton 318 should be
set up the same.

The only other thing out there would be the venum
400 but there are also mixed resaults on that

i called vemon, they did,nt have anything for my truck.the guy i talk to was real helpful, said their unit may work because get gets a reading of some sort from the map sensor and the numbers
for the later dak are the same.food for thought.

the 88 and 89,s are the same even tho the books say there not,you may have to change the map some are different.been there

About the Jet Chip, I have heard many times that they run well on "PRE Mag" engines. Anything 92 up is outa luck, but us Gen I ers with the premag might wanna try it. I have a 90 Dak v6. Ive done a few mods like K&N intake, headers, Jacobs ignition, Accel 8.8 wires, 180 T stat, TransGo Stage 2 Kit, Flowmaster duals, no cat or smog system.Soon to go with 4.10s rear gears, etc. I have been seriously thinking about the Jet Chip due to people I talk to alot who have our trucks and these chips. You can also get them from some stores that will take them back if you dont like them.
Dont look at readers who have new trucks with the Jets. They have totally different engines than us. They are MPI, were not, their truck actually have beter engines in my opion but in this case it works better for us. Let me know what you come up with.

Joe E- did you notice a differents with your headers? and what make are they?

i,ve got cat back duals and the jacobs fire control ignition, did,nt really notice a difference in power, but it idles smoother and the spark out of the coil will jump well over a 1" [strong]

trucks got 3.91,s rear and 180 stat.

i,ve been thinking on some roller rockers and 1.6 rato for a small block and cut the shaft back.have,nt found them for the 3.9[still just a
thought]

if i try this i,ll post the results.

hey dude, about them edelbrock shotry headers, they are alright. I dont feel that they did alot without the other mods I have done. But with the intake and exhaust stuf, they do help. If you have a body lift dont run em. I had to do alot of crap to get them to miss the steering shaft. A real pain. I also have had problems blowing gaskets. replaced both sides since initial install about 2 years ago. Not too bad I guess, just a pain. Another issure is the oxysensor plug. My dak has the 02 sensor near the tranny on the y pipe. These headers had a plug in the drivers side ear thesteering shaft. Had a welder buddy plug it and cover it. Also when I ditched the smog/air pump system, I had to plug the air tubes on the headers. No big deal but another lil thing to do.
If you figure out anything About the PCM let me know. I need to get something done with the computer. Either that or the Jet chip. Later.
