Subject: Recurring DTC code 0138, why??
IP: Logged

Message:
Hey,

I took my '00 V6 CC to the shop last week to get a few things fixed...namely the Governor Pressure sensor and transducer. That fixed the tranny issues. At the time, I was also getting an O2 sensor code, number P0138. When I got to the dealer, that code had disappeared. Now, 4 days later, the check engine light is back on, and the only code is P0138. Tranny is fine, but gas mileage is still not as good as before. And I know the light and the code will go away in a few days, 'cuz it's been doing this for a while. It's on an intermittent cycle. So, if it's intermittent, that means the sensor works sometimes, and not others? How can i remedy this problem? I don't want to spend the $ on a new sensor if there is something else wrong.

Any help?

Thanks!

Go under the truck and check the electrical
connections on the O2's

If your gas milage is bad a O2 can do that

Hmmm, connections seem OK.

What else to check? I'm trying to sell the truck, and having the check-engine light on won't help!

The code is for the downstream 02 sensor, right? So, I shouldn't have to replace both...correct?

I'm hoping a simple replacement will do the trick.
I gotta sell this thing ASAP.

Thanks

Oh, also...there is pretty bad spark knock/pinging all the time now...well, at least whenever I'm accelerating beyond a snail's pace.

Thanks!

Run your tank down as low as you dare...

1 Can B-12 Chemtool and 1/2 tank of Super Unleaded. Then drive the snot outta it! When you refill add another can of B-12 and fill it up with regular gas as you normally do.

All your symptoms tell me the engine is dirty. Gunk has built up on your valves, Piston heads and combustion chamber are covered in carbon. Inside of your Exhaust manifold, Cat, O2 sensors, Muffler and Pipes are all covered in soot.

Give it a good cleaning and this should help most of your problems. This also does wonders to clean your Fuel Injectors. By the end of the 2nd tank it should be fine.

Good Luck,
Shank

I'm not a big fan of additives...and I've never heard of this stuff. Can anyone else back this up?

When I looked into the TB last week (replaced TPS), I could see dirt/oil/scum inside there...but it wasn't a puddle by any means...just looked like oily scum...that had been there for a long time. Could this be part of the problem?

The truck is going to the shop on Thursday...but I doubt they'll do anything of substance...they never do.

Thanks for the help

shank is giving you good advice. Give it a try. It may not solve all of your problems but is should help. If you were keeping the truck I would suggest changing the 02 sensor,( the one between the engine and the cat)

K&N drop in ,Dynomax, Superchip Tuner, 1.7 RR, F&B tb.
