Dunno about the s-bolt.
The throttle bodies are made by Holley, hence the logo.

I believe the current bolt is attached with a plate that restricts air flow into the tb. The S bolt doesn't attach using that plate and therefore you get more air flow. I think...lol

I get a big kick out of the S bolt "mod". I had an F&B TB on my 3.9, and I had to have an S bolt to make the stock airhat fit the F&B. That's all it is. You'll notice that the stock airhat bolt has a short, flat bracket that offsets the stud by about an inch or so. When you buy the F&B, it's difficult to get that setup to work with the stock airhat. So, you take a 1/4" piece of threaded rod, put it in a vice with padded jaws, and bend it into a crude "S" shape, so that it'll screw into the TB, and the other end will come out through the hole in the airhat. It's not some mod meant to lessen airflow restriction, you'd need a motor with 5,000HP before you MIGHT be able to tell any difference between an S bolt and a non-S bolt intake.

GB2000 is exactly right. It certainly isn't a significant mod, but if you going to pay good money for a new TB then you should do every thing you can right? Especailly considering the a new bolt is only pennies.

02 sport, your analogy about needing more hp to tell the difference is bass ackwards.

Perhaps, you may be right, and I mean no disrespect, but with the horsepower and torque potential that a run of the mill V6, modded with bolt ons like 99% of the people on this board are likely to do, the difference between an S bolt vs. non-S bolt is insignificant and not worth considering. The standard Intense Stage 2 intake with the 7" Power Stack filter will support enough airflow to sustain a 600HP motor...that's taken right off their website. So, if I had a 3.9 capable of making 650HP, I might worry about the little bit of extra restriction caused by the factory TB bolt setup. That is why I referred to the LARGER HP motor being more sensitive to restriction than a near stock 3.9 might be, so I don't think that I had it "bass ackwards". I'd bet that the factory airbox is capable of providing enough air for any of the bolt on mods that we normally talk about on this site, for the level of performance that we're likely to get out of the engine without severely modding it out. I had a Stage 2 intake on my 3.9, too, and I loved the way it looked, I just didn't notice any performance improvement from it, even with my S bolt. Your mileage may vary, but that was my experience.

that's your own fault for buying a POS intake.

Hate to piss in your Wheaties Jeremy but 02sport has it right, you have it bass ackwards. the diff between the 2 types of bolts would not be felt in a street machine, no how no way as the thing just won't move enough air at a high enough velocity for the position of a metal rod that just barely interfears with the airflow of the right side TB bore to make any significant difference.

These engines are starved for air. It does make a difference. With the plate in the way the air goes around in and curls back up. We must be talking about something different because the plate on mine was directly over the middle of the TB.
