Subject: Sensors, Runs lean but not really...

Hey guys,

Have some problems that have been surfacing slowly and I need to get rid of the probs.

Engine:
I'm getting a code P0171 "System Too Lean (Bank 1)"
The problem with this is that my truck is now getting 12 - 12.5 MPG. Not exactly too lean in my opinion. Have any of you guys seen this before?

Tranny(AOD):
I'm also getting code P0743 "Torque Converter Circuit Electrical". Hope someone can help me here too since I didn't know there was a Torque Converter Circuit. Is the scanner saying that my Crank Position Sensor is going bad, since that's the only sensor that I can think of that's even near the Torque Converter?

And I'm also getting code P0753 "Shift Solenoid A Circuit Electrical"

Hope one of you dudes can lend a helping hand. Especially the System Too Lean thing since gas is $1.73, give 'er take.

Oh yeah. By the way. I've had this current mod combo for almost 2 years now, and these codes just started coming up a few weeks ago.

Buck

The "System Too Lean (Bank 1)" means that is what it is detecting so then to resolve that problem it will increase the fuel to maximum (hence the poor mpg). Most likely you have a bad O2 sensor giving a false reading so that the computer thinks it is lean when in fact it is rich (12 mpg). Try replacing the front O2.

whitedakota2,

Thanks man. I thought that it might be the 02, but it's only about 17,000 miles old. Maybe from my mods it gunked it up faster than normal. I guess I'll change it again. Anybody have some inputs on the Troque Converter Curicuit?

I have a 98 Dakota, I'm also getting the two codes P0743 and P0753(torque converter clutch sol/trans relay circuit, Shift solenoid A electrical) The torque converter was making a little noise previous to the error code. Very faint ticking, it's not ticking now.. since the engine error the truck doesn't want to downshift and seems like the torque converter has too much resisntence. I'm going to check for vaccum hoses but thought someone may have encountered this problem too.

TCC is computer controled

check all the connections and ground on the trans
follow the wires you will find another connection
plug up the line towards the motor clean, dielect
grease and tie togather with small tie strap

There is also a sol inside the trans for TCC and
O/D 96 and up RE also presure sensor
