I am looking to buy a 94 ext cab sport and it has a 195,000 miles and it sounds like that is the time that the timing chain needs to be replaced. Is that a simple task i could do myself or will i need a mechanic and does anyone know how much that would be?

joe c, without knowing your skill level it would be hard to tell if it is difficult for you or not. relatively, i'd say no, it's not that difficult at all. time consuming, yes. if you doubt your abilities, get a Haynes or Chiltons repair manual for about 20 bucks and go for it. if the waterpump is original, you might want to change it while you're there. air tools will speed the process up.

hey i have a 2000 dakota v6, 4x4, ext cab, with 164000 on it, all stock, bought it with 146000. does anyone else get bad gas milage?? i think it might be sludge build up but im not sure. i only get 220 miles out of a full 20 gallon tank. and also my tranny seems to race a lot until you drive it for a couple miles then it settles out. it is worse in the cold. any ideas on what it is?? oh and one last thing, im planning on puttin new speakers in the doors(cause my brother blew the originals) and was curious if anyone could tell me how difficult it would be to do it myself?

putting new speakers in is a very simple task as long as you just pay attention to what you are doing. Just attach the two wires to the respective ones from the truck and you're all set.

1999, 296,000 and truck still pretty much original from new(when I bought it). Upper ball joints and front brakes are all that has been done to it. Rear brakes not even looked at since I do only highways with it.
