do you think it would be possible to hook up a 1994 dodge dakota sport with a 302 from a mustang gt. My friend is dropping a 351 windsor in his car, and he said it would be sweet if we could put his old 302 in my truck. I think i would have to get a cheap tranny c-4 tranny to bolt up to the engine and minor stuff like that. i was also concerned with the ruggedness of the rear-end would they hold up to a good old v8???? any info would help a lot
thanks

its a sweet idea but it would take a ton of work to do and not to mention $$. depending on the power you put out of this 302 u can blow the rear up in abut a week..so why not just go get yourself a 9" ford rear too then u will be having some fun..dont forget the motor mounts will be diffrent you will have to redo ur entire exhaust amoung many other things. if your serious about the v8 swap look into the 5.9 or 5.2. our trucks come stock with them so the swap would be much easyer then trying to wedge a ford motor into it. aslo dont forget the pcm and all that electrical stuff would have to be changed too unless you were goin to make it carbed in whichcase you wouldent need any comp junk.

I would say it is posible but I would go with the
stronger C6 tran's. posible O/D tran's so you
can still get some gas milage with it or I would
say you would only get about 15mpg.

The 8.25 rear end should hold up fine they run
behind 360's every day with out any probs.

That would be a very interesting setup, giving it
some thought you might be able to get a V8 dak
wire harnas and use all the sensors from the dodge
and get it to run.

I am looking for a 2 wheel Dak I have a 1977 400
in my garage right now with a 69 383 fordged crank
and rods and a set of Keith Black KB240 pistons
I want to drop in a Dak some day.

I had considerd putting it in my 4X4 but because
of the offset it would not fit.

Schumacher makes the adaptor and the motor mounts
to bolt it right in a Dak for about $4 to $500

Just one of my dreams that will happen someday
when I have nothing better to do and get bored

yeah i agree with you lot o work. I think i am just going to look for a cheap 318 and completely tear it down and then rebuild it. I should easily be able to get about 350 at the wheels if i get the right combo's, but i dunno. for now i will just keep doing stuff to my 3.9l. i have also thought about selling my truck and getting a 318 with a 5speed and working on that instead of doing all of that to my truck. Just things i am thinking about. Thanks for the info guys, just figured i would give it a shot.

All you would have to do is check the rears out

8.25 10 bolts on the cover

9.25 12 bolt on the cover

Another way to check if they are the same is to
look on the sticker either under the hood or in
the glove box they list what they size they have
and the gear ratio.

97 and 98 are both gen III and are probably
the identical units.

A lot of the RT's came with the heavier rear just
check them it only takes a couple seconds to see
