I'm in a hurry so I'm not gonna bother finding my old post about this...so sorry to everyone for wasting a whole 1 kilobyte of space creating a new post. Anyway...Larry, since you wanna stay up and answer every question, I figure now is a good time to ask:)

I have a 98 Dakota sport and I want to get one of those Edelbrock air cleaners. I know it won't be much of a performance upgrade since I don't have an induction hood, but I do like the looks of them and that's what I'm currently wanting to improve on my truck. Will a 10 inch air cleaner fit? I know a lot of the guys here are using 14 inchers, but I don't think that sucker would fit under the hood without doing some major modifying. I have about 5 inches max between my throttle body and the back of my engine compartment. I was mostly wondering if a 10 inch would work (with a 2" inlet I think) and if it would seal right. I know I need a spacer (or is it two?) and a longer bolt/stud thing since the stock one is too short. Oh yeah... duh. The whole reason I posted is because there is a rubber hose running from my stock airhat down to my driver side valve cover. What would I do with that hose and what is the hose for? It's about I'd say 3/4 inch in diameter. Thanks,

Josh

the 3/4" hose plugs into a large round PCV Valve, it sucks Oil vapors and fumes off top of the Valve Cover. Is there not a connection on the Edelbrock? It's pretty vital to keep the engine running longer down the road. If there's no connection you would probably have to mount 1, I personally have a problem chopping into something I just payed big $ for.

As far as the 10" fitting, I will have to leave that up to Larry. What part # are looking at and what website? usually 10" means the width and not the height.

Yes a 10" will work and that is true on the newer
trucks the 14" will hit the fire wall.

Does it come with a cotton gause filter, if not
you can get an eliment from K&N or a cool blue
cotton will out flow a paper filter.

Remove the flap from around your Rad to allow more
air to get under the hood.

You can make a s bolt you will find the dimentions
here

http://www.dakota-durango.com/performancetips.html

As far as the hose that runs to the cover on the
drivers side you can just get a filter unit and
put it in the hole all it does is pull and vapor
from inside the motor to burn it instead of
venting into the air, I just aimed mine over and
down and it will not effect the running of the
motor in any way

The base needs to be 4 1/2" to fit the body

Thanks a lot Larry!

Couple more questions before I give up...I wanna make sure I don't mess nothing up=P

"I just aimed mine over and
down and it will not effect the running of the
motor in any way"

So I leave the hose attached to the valve cover, but remove it from my air hat (since it is being removed...) and then just let it dangle towards the ground (Sorta like my vapor release on my four-wheeler for instance)?

"The base needs to be 4 1/2" to fit the body"

The base of what? The air cleaner? Please explain...I'm stupid when it comes to doing anything mechanical. I'm normally a computer geek...computers are my specialty.

Thanks again,
Josh

Hose yes you can just hang it down. If you do a
lot of off roading in water you may want to stick
a filter on the end otherwise it will be fine.

I did that with mine because I did not want air
forced in the crankcase from my ram air setup
presuizing the crankcase that way is not a good
idea

The diameter of the top of the throttle body is
4 1/2" the opening on the bottom of the air
cleaner that sits on the TB needs to be that size
to fit the body

Final questions: What size spacer will I need to make a proper fit? Where it mentions the 10" filter on Edelbrock's website, it says in parentheses (3-1/2"). Does that mean the opening is 3 1/2" and I'll have to cut the opening larger or is that referring to another dimension?

I think that's it... just don't blindside me with any more statements:P

Thanks yet again...lol.

Why don't you copy and paste the URL so I can
check it out.

Yes they do make spacers to raise the filter to
clear the linkages usualy called offset.

If it says for 3 1/2 base yes to small

Blindside HUMMM ?

Don't worry bout the blindside comment...I dunno if that's the right word even, but I meant for it to be sarcastic, not offensive either way.

I agree larry, w/supercharger you don't wanna risk pressurizing the crankcase.

I have a PCV on driver side and a filter on the pass side. Valve covers also have an oil fill on both sides. Not sure if this is stock or something a previous owner did to the engine.

I like the pro-flow 1000 but neither size fit's mopar :(

GB2000,

Sorrie I was mad the other night and gave you the
wrong dimentions.

The size of the base on the holley throttle bodies
on these trucks is 5 1/8 inch just like just
about any 4bl carb.

What I was running on mine befor I spent $125 for
the 14X3 K&N and another $60 on the exstream top
was a Mopar cast alm filter, the cool ones that
say Mopar on them.

Now that filter unit is on my 88 318 3/4 ton
firewood truck.

All the spacers do is raise the filter to clear
linkages chockes and that stuff a reg filter with
a 5 1/8 base hole will fit just fine you don't
need a spacer to raise the filter.

Shank someone must have been playing with your
truck if the PCV is on the wrong side but It
would not make any diff. 2 oil fill caps ya
someone did that there should only be one.

I guess your truck was built for either a left or
right hand oil dumper LOL
