Change the fluid and get the sure grip additive
from mopar.

You need to pull the cover to drain it.

There is a gaskit avalible for the rear or use
some black RTV silicon sealer as long as the old
gaskit did not tear when you remove the cover

Sounds like bearings not L/S unit.
Is is a 4x4 and you've been off road? If so you may have gotten some water in the diff. and ruined the bearings.
Also...check make sure the springs are all still on the brake pads, they can come off and do a similar type of thing.

You can get a rebuild kit for the sure grip that
comes with new clutch's and seporater plates.

P4529484 CLUTCHKIT $65 Chrysler, just dobble
check the # this is for the 8.25 if you have an
rt with the bigger rear or newer than 95 than
there is another kit.

Just check the sticker under your hood or in your
glove box to see for sure what you have, the gear
ratio don't matter just the size.

You will need to pull the center pin, spider gears
and axles out about a foot on both sides to
change the the clutch pacs but you do not need
to disasemble the whole unit.
