I here that the regular fram filters aren't that great, but the fram toughguard filters are ok. I think k&n are the best, and there only $20 a piece!

oil filter manufacturers & Amsoil Oil Filters

00Dakota, Let's start with this:

Many Dakota owners (and others) are trying to figure out how many different oil filter manufacturers there are, which one is best for their particular need, and which manufacturer makes what brands. From what I can gather, here is what is out there:

Honeywell - makes Fram (In Canada the Quaker State filters are Fram filters / In the USA, QS is Purolator), Pennzoil, Quaker State

Arvin Meritor - makes Purolator Premium Plus, PureONE, Ford OEM, V-1 & SureFlow (Superflow?)

Dana - makes Wix and Napa Gold/Silver, AC Delco DuraGuards for Canada

Baldwin (Parent of Hastings) - Baldwin, Hastings, Amsoil, Casite, maybe others

Champion Labs - Mobil 1, K&N, Supertech, AC Delco DuraGuards (two different types) for USA, Bosch Premium, STP, Ultraguard Gold, Deutch & Luberfiner

Cummins Engine - owns Fleetguard

Mann - a top quality German filter maker (for our many German Friends on this site).

Please add to (or correct) this list if you have any more information on filters or filter makers.
--------------------------------------------------

There are two considerations when choosing a filter, FLOW & FILTRATION.

Something I've noticed with many of you smartasses around here...

1.) You get annoyed with someone if they start a new post when they could have searched for the answer (and if they still had a question, posted within that post...even though it may be 2 years old).

2.) When someone had been searching and may still have a related question so they post their question within that old post, you get annoyed because they bring back a very old post.

Get what I'm saying? And if you think you suffer when you give your opinion, then don't reply. Let someone else who won't suffer give their opinion.

To the original poster: I use Fram (I think Tough Guard or whatever) since I'm cheap and I don't race my dakota. I've heard the Wix and K&N filters are both really good though.

slickster,

I've read that the Walmart Super Tech oil filters are a good filter. I just bought one for $1.97 Sunday (honestly, I'm currently on a strict budget). I'm wondering how they can be this cheap as compared to Bosch Premium at $5.99 or Mobil 1 at $11.99 and be as good as either of these. Just thinking about the old saying "You get what you pay for". Anyone have any experience or comments on these filters?

Okay, maybe we can kill this thread here, and perhaps everyone gets the message to do a search next time.

NOTE: As everyone has probably noticed, DodgeDakotas.com has been getting a lot more traffic lately and many, many new visitors and posts ... confirmed by speaking with Mark (site owner). Mark has been working hard to update the site and promote it across the Internet.

For all the "Newbies" please do a search before creating a new thread. This site has been up and running for a few years and most subjects have already been covered at one time or another ...

AutoLite's, Best Motor Oil, K&N, Best Filters (Oil & Air), Amsoil, etc.

As GB2000 stated above ... don't hesitate to do a search and bring an older post to the top if you have a particular question or comment to add. This helps to continue a thought pattern and also saves server space.
--------------------------------------------------

Now ...

While Super Tech is a pretty decent filter, it isn't up to the same level as the Bosch Premium, even if it is made in the same place. The Bosch premium has a higher quality media, and filters out smaller particles ... straight from Champion that the SuperTech is a 20 micron filter and the Bosch is a 15 micron filter.

Wal-Mart buys in such quantities, that they can negotiate good prices with their suppliers. I'm sure Champion was quite pleased to enter into a deal which allows Wal-Mart to sell these filters for $1.97, when it allows Champion to make enough of these private label oil filters to stock every Wal-Mart in the US. The Champion salesman who landed that account surely got a nice bonus!

For under $2, this Super Tech filter is very well constructed for all who might be interested.
--------------------------------------------------
Reminder ... when choosing a filter ... FLOW & FILTRATION.
--------------------------------------------------
Now, do a search please if you have any more concerns / questions.

Thank You.
