For those of you who have fixed this, youll know what im talking about(I hope). Mine is a '91

Got the part from Kragen(local parts store) and went to change it, but i had two problems:

1. The sensor wires were ridiculously too short. Should have gone from the tail shaft to the top of the tranny around the middle. The wires were only about 4 inches long.

2. The part that is hooked to the speedo cable and plunger type assembly that sticks into the tranny(has a wobbly nut on one side, and threads on the other, to hook to the cable, then the sensor/wires actually plug into it) Follow that? :) Well the replacement part for this only has the wobble nut one one side, it doesnt have the threads to screw the cable onto it.

The guy at Kragen assured me it was the right part. He said the tranny must have been switched with a later year(since the earlier models were IN the tranny) Im going to a tranny shop today to ask them, but Im without a truck till i fix this.

My official questions:

Did I get the wrong part, or is the tranny non-stock?

Could I just use the new sensor, by adding wire(cutting, then adding to the middle), and using the old part mentioned in problem #2(the connector between speedo cable and the part that goes into the tranny)

Sounds like you got the wrong unit, the wires
should be the right length and plug right in.

You may have also got a truck 1/2 year where they
changed things and the next newer year will fit.

They like to change things mid year and call it
a 1/2 like 91 - 91 1/2

Seen this happen many times on all types chevy,
ford dodge they all do this

Yea, I've had the same problem with the oxygen sensor. Every time I get a V-6 the darn thing is not long enough. So now I just go back and buy the V-8 oxygen sensor. Just ask for the V-8 part. It may or may not be longer. Solved my problem.
