Hi Guys,
Thanks to the threads here I just changed my Summit order from a Flowmaster to a Dynomax Muffler... But my question is with regard to Cats

I'm working on my 2001 Dakota 3.9L Its currently stock with a stage 1 chip and stock replacement K&N filter. (dang ol' K&N doesn't make anything good for the 2001 V6)

First and formost, does anyone know the length of the stock cat? I can operate a tape measure just fine, but if you've already done it, it saves me a step... I ask because I am thinking of going with a Dynomax universal Cat, but I want to know if I'm going to be cutting pipe or adding pipe.

My eventual exaust plan is the JBA Shorty Header (JBA part 1939) feeding what ever you guys think is best for a cat, then into the Dynomax muffler.

And is anyone out there willing to verify for me that the 2001 truck runs a 3 inch pipe all the way down?

Is anyone running a similar rig? Got suggestions? Speak now before I'm into the multi-hundreds on this project!

Thanks for any thoughts you may have!

Kurt

Well, at least we got the comic relief taken care of early *sigh*...

Does anyone have a reply that actually answers the question?

Well my stock CAT on my '97 went bad a few months ago and had the dealer put a new one on, the new one is larger then the first one and from what others around here say, the newer dodge CATs are already hi-flo and by adding and aftermarket CAT u wont see any improvments (if any).

But, alot of people that do get HI-FLO CATS use the "carsound hi-flo cat"

Have no idea on siez!

stock cat on thse trucks are just as good as highflow cats performence wize. the motor does not put out enough ponys for a 3 inch exhaust system so by adding one you woul be ruinin ur performence. stick with the 2 1/2. save your money on the headers right now! the stock manifold are just as good, instead of the headers get yourself a intake and v8 throttle body.

Well I recently installed a Hedman Hedders High Flow Cat on my 98 Dakota, 4x4 (3.9L) and with the Gibson Exhaust (which I've had for a while now) the new CAT kiX ass.

Other mods:

360AirIntakeZ Cold-Air intake
MSD 8.5 MM Wires
autolite 3923 plugs (cold)
180 degree thermostat
Borg-Warner Brass contact CAp&Rotor
Gibson Exhaust (single outlet, better than dual IMHO)
Hedman Hedders High Flow Cat (3rd CAT, 1st 2 stock CATS crapped out, no more stock thank you)

Next Mods:

PCM or JET Stage II - what is the best move here?

Peace

Shepp
