Subject: spedo after gear swap
IP: Logged

Message:
I have a 96 c.c 4x4 3.9 auto.

I recently swaped the stock 3.55's to 4.11's. This of course change the calabration of my spedometer and odometer. My questoin is this. Is the gear ratio stored in the computer on this truck, or is it still a gear? I really dont like cops behind me and having to guess how fast i am going.

Thanks
Andy

The gear is in your guage cluster and can be changed. I would hit up your mopar dealer to see if you can get a replacment. You can also do the math and figure out exactly how fast you are going. There are websites for this. http://www.smokemup.com/auto_math/index.php

You can buy a calibration box from KRC

http://www.krcperformance.com/newcontent/pcm.html

KRC Gear Box

Or visit you local dealer and have them change it
in the computer, they just hook it up and change
the spedo setting, probably just as expensive as
the KRC unit $149 but they can also move the point
of the speed limiter with this.

I have the same question. I have a 1990 3.9 and was going to run a 4.11. But now Im wanting to run 33s instead of 31s so I am thinking about 4.56s. Hows your dak run?

The gear doesn't change anything as far as speedo goes. It's the size of the tires that does it. I put the Abbott (KEC Performance) box in and I learned a lot about how these trucks work as far as indications going into the computer. If yours is a 97 or older you problably will have to hook up to the transmission speed indicator, after 97 you better hook between the ABS box and the PCM. I hooked into the rear differential like KRC and Abbott told me and it didnt work because the ABS is after this sensor. It makes the ABS freak out everytime you step on the brake. Just my .02 and life lesson.

Wouldn't want any other!
