Subject: Cold air intake ??? shift kits?

Hey guys,

Ok im hoping to start doing some mods on my truck But i dont know what the best performance/price decisions to make. Primarly im thinking of doing a K&N intake i have seen custom ones for $70 on ebay. Are they any good? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2427213436&category=38634
Copy and paste the above if you wanna know what im talking about. I have heard that the heat of the engine makes the cold air really a hot air intake which is very baddd.. in my opinion is this true or false? even if you remove the rubber around the headlight? OK my next queston is... Are the transgo shift kits worth the $100 Labor hours are like 2 to 3 hr?? right? I have searched and seen alot of opinions on these 2 subjects but want some personal feedback if possible. Thanx a bunch in advance.

Okay the cones sux a&& cause all they do is pull hot air from around the motor.

Don't be fooled by the ebay rice guys, lol.

Since you have never done a shift kit I would take it to a good trans shop and pay whatever they ask... Those kota transmissions cost to much to play with.

ALso if your gonna get a shift kit add a cooler!

A cold air intake will help gas milage and
throttle response but you need to be sure you are
drawing cold outside air. If that kit puts the
filter near the open air it will work.

Looks like it would work

I run a hood scoop and draw outside air right off
the hood.

The best way to start on a V6 is with a V8 or
aftermarket throttle body, cold air and the 1.7
rollers from crower.

Get more in than think about the exh, low
restriction muffler and a set of JBA's you
don't need a expensive cat back system they do
you no good better with a factory single tail

If you do the exh first you will notice a loss
on low end power.

The shift kit is worth the money, you do have to
drop the valve body out to install if you are not
familure with auto tran's get someone who is to
help you.

The kit comes with a vid to watch to see how to
do the instalations.

Its not close enough, it will not work. If you want a good cold air intake draw from the hood or from the side of the radiator supt.

man make your own intake

it's easy, the most expensive item is the filter. you can do the rest for a few bucks

I see a lot of trucks were people have just bought
a K&N cone filter and some pipes and runner flange
connectores from a hardware store and built very
good looking cold air systems that work very well.

Its just another case like an expensive cat back
system that you don't need and does you no good.

You Don't Need to spend a lot of money to get the
peformance gains from the simple mods like exh
and intake.

Just use your imagination and I am sure you can
come up with a system that works for around $50
the filters are around $30 to $40

My first idea on my Dak was a dual tube system
grabing air from the grill, one in the origanal
spot and cutting a hole on the other side under
the batt box for the second cold air tube.

But it seamed like more work than the hood scoop
I ended up with.

Use the stock air hat if you have the older round
filter type just go to a bone yard and get a hat
from a newer model V8 or V6 will work so you can
hook up to it
