i have a 93 dakota 3.9L auto 4spd. I just bought B&Ms TransPak. to install in my tranny. I was just wondering what oil i should use that would geive outstanding results. Also By changing the gear oil in the rear end to synthetic would that help me on the pulling end of things? By the way, I have 190k on the truck with no oil LEAKs knock on wood! LOL thanks Billy

I have a 92 auto w/138k. Recently I put Amsoil's ATF and their gear lube in the rear end. By adding the ATF and adjusting the bands, I can notice that my tranny shifts smoother and they claim it will run cooler. The gear oil did not make a noticable difference and I wish I hadnt done it. The oil that came out looked fine. I was pretty lazy and didnt buy a new gasket or apply any sealant, so it looks I will be doing that shortly, I got a very slow drip. Thats the only leak I have in the truck, and it was self inflicted.

I hope I can loosen the bolts slightly(where the oil begins to seep out, apply some RTV sealant, and then tighten) hopefully that will be the cure, if not I guess Ill find something to catch $15 of oil and do it right like I should have done it.

Yes JasonB,

Better yet, I should encourage Billy and Joe to become Amsoil Independent Dealers. You would be supprised how many people see the Amsoil stickers on my truck, ... come up to me and state that they have either seen advertisements or heard about it from a friend, and ask me if I know where they can find it locally. Of course, I always open my briefcase and hand them a catalog.

Nothing better than a satisfied customer (or an Amsoil sticker in the window) to help promote the Amsoil product line.

On another note. I have been an Advertiser and Sponsor of DodgeDakotas.com now for two years. It was certainly an uphill battle in the beginning (lots of doubters and flamers), but I have tried to be fair, honest, and open-minded in my posts and responses.

Billy, your Castrol Syntec is not a true synthetic. It is Group III hydrocracked Dino. A true synthetic is either Group IV, Group IV or a combination of the two (as base oils) + additives packages. Not a bad oil for a Group III (I've seen pretty good UOA's - Used Oil Analysis'), but there are better oils available.

THANKS JOE for the testimonial about Amsoil.

Joe,

For the record, you stated:

"The gear oil did not make a noticable difference"

Though you don't feel a noticable difference in the seat of your pants ... that does not mean that the synthetics are not protecting or performing better.
