I think the stock exhaust on the V6 sounds pretty good. A friend of mine (who is a car nut) rode with me the other day and thought I had an aftermarket exhaust. Mine is stock. Granted it's not very loud, but it does have a nice rumble at idle and low rpms. Just thought I'd share.

I dont even remember what it sounded like. I've had my flowmaster on for a few years now. I do miss the quietness of being stock though. If there was a similar to stock sounding muffler with the slight performance increase of the flow id be all over that.

You probably have a standard dont you JM?
I knew this guy who had a new Ram with the V6 it was an automatic. He wrecked it and got an identical one(w/o me knowing)but with a 5spd. I just thought he got an exhaust. Sounds pretty good. I wouldnt mind a 3.7.

Which DYNOMAX? I am down to either a DYNOMAX or a Flowmaster 50 (SUV) for my 2003 DAK w/3.9. I don't want it to sound like a Harley or feel like I'm sitting on one either when cruising down the H-way. In Dynomax there are two, the Ultra-Flow & the Super-Turbo. I am not looking so much for performance as I am to improve the sound a wee bit to a deeper throatier tone, but don't want to be "waking up the neighbors".
Comments, please?

yeah, on my last Dakota with the 3.9 I had the Dynomax Super Turbo #17748. When first installed it is barely above the stock tone. Once it gets a couple thousand miles on it, it burns the packing in nicely and it has a nice mellow tone to it. Trust me, on the 3.9, you will be MORE than happy with the Super Turbo #17748. With the sound you are describing that you want, that muffler will give you EXACTLY what you were looking for.

Thanks very much, I am now convinced. I was going with 1-IN, 2-OUT (17674) and gonna' forget about the Flowmaster. According to the Dynomax folks I can expect a performance improvement with their product vs. the Flowmaster (a predictable response, for sure).

I have a 91 with several mods including a flowmaster deltaflow 40. It runs great with it. Small performance increase after all its 125 stock horses dragging around 3300 lbs. To get to the point it sounds great. Rather loud though, but I like it. Has a great undertone that travels through walls and stuff but is not real loud and sets of Pontiac Grand Prix factory alarms all day long. It doesn't have that v8 ripping/laping sound, but I love it. The design of the flowmaster is supposed to scavenge (helps create torque) very well with the baffles inside verses the the straight through shot with the dynomax. I had the Dynomax super turbo on there, but it was to quiet and actually only lasted 2 years before I had to replace it.

On my 98 v6 ram I just took the stock muffler right off and left the cat. The tailpipe is a 3" factory, but it sounds like a 40 series american thunder Flowmaster!! Super Bad, plus it boosted my Hoses'(horsepoewer for those of you not versed in Redneck! lol)
