Well i finally raced my friends 97 s10 4.3L ....and yah it sucked.....off the line we were dead even and then he pulled away....and kept pulling away...it freakin sucked....none the less i bought my truck and his mommy bought his for him....thats ok i kicked his friends azz in his 95 s10...but y him and not the 97? Anywayz i was figuring that the 97 is about 300lbs. less than mine, the differential is like comparing mine to a 3 speed...so his is alot better.....and he told me his has about 15 more h.p. than mine. I have a 94 3.9 ext. cab dak w/k&n drop in and a 40 series flowmaster exhaust.... he has a torpedo glasspack with a K&N drop in as well. O well I just want to get the 3.92 ratios....isnt that for the R/T? That way hye wont pull away from me like he did.....dang im in denial right now!

try a true cold ait intake that gets it's air from outside the engine bay, not one of those store bought under hood deals, that alone will gain some really good power between the combo of true cold air, and at speed a true ram air, sorta like a poor mans turbo, that should give you around 10 hp at hi speed and WOT. the 3.92 is available as an option on the dak no matter the model so that won't matter if it's an r/t.I ripped out the funny looking airhorn on my airbox and replaced it with a chunk of dryer venting with the intake next to the radiator, knocked off some time and gained to 22 mpg on the hyway from barely 20. so for about 5 bucks I gained 10 hp and 2 mpg, bestest/cheapest upgrade I ever did!

Another problem is adjusting your speed-o When you change rear ends you also edit your speed-0 I have pretty good luck with 3.91 ratio.

I must agree with the chevy boy even though I own/love my dodge.

The 3.9 makes a piss poor race engine for high RPMs and draging... Yea the 3.9 is good off the line, but by the time you get half way down the strip your SOL. How is the 3.9 better than the 4.3... The 3.9 will pull a heck of a lot better than a 4.3. AND the Kotas are heavy in the back end so they grab better. If you want to play on the drag stip you should drop a 273 in there with 318 heads. the weight of the 3.9 and the 273 are not that much diffent (both LA motors). Another plus to the 273 is that it has floating rods... This means at the piston writs there is less friction.

Something I have always wanted to try was to take and put the 91 318 intake, heads (ported and polished) and holly TB on a 273 and see if the 318 ECU would run it w/o flashing the computer.

Damn Rooster. Know your engine stuff huh. Let me run this by you. I gotta 1990 3.9L CC. Ive done the typical bolt on mods, intake, headers, ignition, exhaust. Bout to get 4.10s hopefully this week. I have been told that MPP makes a mild cam for our premag v6s. What could i expect if I installed this? Low end torque or high end power? Worth it?

IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR POWER OUT OF YOUR SIX CYLINDER YOU SHOULD LOOK SOMEWHERE ELSE. THE 3.9L CHRYSLER ENGINE IS BUILT FOR TOWING. NOT DRAG RACING. BUT A GREAT CHEAP MOD FOR THE SIX'S IS A 10 MINUTE BOLT ON ROUND TOP AIR FILTER 9"X 2".IT'LL ADD 5-10 HP AND WONT SOUND LIKE IT IS STARVING FOR THAT EXTRA AIR. COSTS AROUND $20

CrazyJ...you're a f*ckin lifesaver...

I been trying to figure out the size of the Edolbrock air cleaner to get and noone had mentioned it before. Oh yeah...for everyone else, the air filters he's talking about are found at most Autozones for 20 bucks.

LOL, not it won't... That will only help if you have major intake and head mods, and I mean major. The stock air system does not restric the air that the engine pulls, however the filter does.

The CFM of the air system is almost twice the air the motor needs at 5 grand.

You must own rice..... you know, that kind of car that you put a sticker on and gain 5 on the ground, lol.

Torque, and a lil power but I think more torgue....

The best way to get more HP (low end) out of it is to change compression ratios... Need More.

Also putting pistons it it that have the air swearl design will give you half a vortek motor and will help hp at high end....

so are you saying that the engine can pull all the air it needs from a little 2.5" hole on the side of a box... and then through a ribbed flexhose? The whole system is restrictive. Or else you would hear about people bitching about all the high flow intakes they bought.

The stock system isnt cut out for performance... its made to decrease intake velocity to quiet the noises. Replacing the stock paper filter with a cotton/gaze type is good... better flowing intake is better.
