Anybody experienced in Gen I v6 performance uppgrades? I want to get more power but not lose my bottom end power. I was thinking K&N air cleaner, mopar 4bbl intake with a holley truck avenger, edelbrock headers, with a single pipe 2.5" exhaust with flowmaster 40 and free flow cat. Any input would be appreciated. thanks

Hey I gotta 1990. 2wd V6 with a few mods. I made a intake using a 9in K&N cone filter. Then I had an exhaust set up added. Flowmaster dual outlet, and the cat removed. Then I onstalled the edelbrock shorty headers. Then a Jacobs Omni Mag ignition and coil. Accel 8.8mm wires and larger gaped plugs. I cut the belt to the smog system and removed it as much as possible. Also installed a 180 deg T stat. It runs well. Since I added 31s and the lift and all the metal bars and stuff it is not as fast as a light stock truck would run. I am also about to swap in a set of 4.10s in for my stock 3.21 gears. That should help alot on the bottom. And i have also kicked around removing the K&N cone and using my fiberglass hood scoop as a ram air and not just a cool air inlet hole. And of course the Jet stageII chip has always tweeked my intrest. Might do it soon too.
Good Luck on it and if there is anything I can answer, just ask... Later

Oh, Spencer. Do you recomend the MPP Cam? What was the item number on it? And did you install it or have someone else do it? Thx

On your 87 dak consider adding an msd ignition, low resistance wires, high output coil, and regapped the spark plugs 10 thousand's over factory setting from 35 to 45 thousand's. Make sure you replace your O2 sensor, if it has more than 50 thousand miles on it, this will affect mileage and power in a big way if it's bad. Consider using a K and N air filter, on the exhaust side try a high flow cat, and high flow- low restriction muffler like a flow master 40 or 50 series. All these together will give a good increase in power and gas mileage.

Hey Joe, You got any pix of that home brew intake? I would assume replacing your belt driven fan with an electric fan would help as well. That's something I'm looking at doing to mine along with changing the rear gears from 3.55's to 3.92's. Come on guys keep the GEN I tricks coming. One other question Joe, are you also running a colder plug?

Whats up guys. Bnut, I can look for some picts. Cant find them right off hand tho. Its nothing special, but it does work. My truck is definitly not a show truck so Im not really worried about the engine apperence.
I have a Jacobs Ing with 8.8mm accel wires, a perf. coil, and autolite 3923s gapped to .045.

Spencer, can you still get ahold of that MP cam you installed in your truck? Im intrested in buying one if they are avaliable still. Thanks

Joe E.
