I purchased a 93 Dakota 2wd not to long ago and I noticed that the speedo is about 5mph to fast. I looked at the sticker on the door jamb and it said to use 195's, but who ever had the truck before put on new 205's. Is there a way to calibrate the speed without going back to the smaller tires?

Thanks

I'm not sure if a 93 dak has a cable drive speedo or and electronic speedo. If it's cable driven you can usually change the drive gear, if its electronic you can buy recalibration boxes that plug into the harness.

BTW 195 and 205 are the widths of the tires, not the height. You need to look up the tire sizes and find out how many revolutions per mile for each size to determine if the tires are the reason your speedo is off.

Also almost all speedos read about 3 miles slower than your actual speed, this is normal.

Thanks for the reply, I will check that out. I guess the 5mph cushion is good since I have a lead foot!!

To find out how fast it is, measure the diameter of both tires. Divide the current tire size by the old size, get that number then multiply it to your mph or miles driven.

Like I have 29s, the speedo was calibrated for 26s
29/26=1.1_ times 60mph(indacated) =66.9mph actual
