Subject: 1.7 Roller Rockers
IP: Logged

Message:
Hey,

Will the 1.7 Roller rockers from Crower work well on a stock 3.9 Magnum (cold air intake)? I was thinking about installing a set but wanted to make sure they will improve power on a stock engine.
Thanks for the help

Yes they will, about 15 to 18 RWHP and you will
notice them from about 1800 on up

More low end torque and they also will give you
better gas milage.

Add a V8 or aftermarket throttle body to that and
you have 2 of the best mods you can do, than go
to the exhaust with a low restriction muffler
with the factory tail pipe you don't need to buy
an expensive cat back system

They will-- On a stock 5.9-- went from 204 hp to 230 hp (rockers AND headers-- but the headers gave no where near the perf. on the butt dyno as the rockers did).

3.9s and 5.2s seem to better with them as they have a more aggressive stock cam profile.

I sell 'em-- with modified valve covers (powdercoated in whatever color you want)-- There is a guy selling a used set never installed for a really good price around here somewhere (I think on ebay too).

Ya Sam, I think I just blew my plenum on my
stroker motor, a little rough when I start her
cold but than clears up in about a minute.

Do you have the billet aluminum plenum and gasket
and what would the price be.

I am going to run it a while but if it gets any
worse I will have to pull it.

You can get the 1.7's from Sam

http://www.socaldakota.com/frame.htm

$350 shiped to your door

Jim, I can send you a detailed email on how to
install them by email when your ready.

They are easy to install you can use your stock
covers by just taking a 2X4 lay them on a rag
on the floor and gently knock down the baffles
being sure to keep the ends open a little for
the PCV to work and so your oil will go in.
No big deal

There is a very easy procedure to install them
starting with #1 at TDC and going right down the
fireing order getting each piston at TDC than
remove the old ones on 1 cyl at a time install
the studs tighten just untill the push rod is
snug than 3/4 of a turn.

Roller lifters need a .050 .060 preload or they
will be noisy takes me 2 hours to do a V6

What's up with all you guys looking for rockers now? I had them posted and advertised all over this and other Dodge boards for well under $300, and couldn't get any response. I would've sold them for $275 2 days ago, but I sold them to Stealwings for a VERY good price because I don't have my Dak anymore, and I'm tired of them hanging around, and all of a sudden everyone wants them? Guess you'll all just have to pay Sam $350 to get a set of them now, just like I did. They sure did improve the performance of my V6 Dak, though...turned it into a Tundra SR5 V8. Thanks for looking, come again... :>)

02Sport+, how you like that Tundra? I was thinking of getting one a few years ago but I just couldn't leave my Dak. I was figuring though here in the next few years they should be comming out with a different engine since they're going to be in Nascar Craftsman series. Thanks on the buy for the 1.7's. That's the best price I've ever seen them, deffinately worth it. I would have bought them earlier from you but the funds weren't there yet. Now I'll be happy when its all done on the heads, intake and RR's.

Wouldn't want any other!

Stealwings, I'm glad you got the rockers, I don't mind giving someone an honest deal when they're going to put them to good use. I've never made money off of anything that I've sold, doesn't matter what it is, or how nice it is, so I just accept it. I could find $100 lying in the street, and it'd cost me $500 to keep it. Such is the story of my life...

I really like the Tundra, have to say. Coming off the V6 Dak, the V8 in the Tundra is like night and day, even though the I-Force is only a 4.7. I don't think that any amount of mods I might've done to my Dak within my capability would've made it pull as hard or as quick as this V8. I've heard some folks mention a lack of torque with the Toyota V8, but I'm certainly not feeling it. No more continuous shifting in and out of OD when going up slight inclines. I liked the Dak OK, but couldn't put up with the soaked carpets and the tranny weirdness, so I decided to cut and run. I'm not gonna bash Dodges, though, just because I have a Toyota now. I still like them quite a bit, and I'd have one over a Ford or a Chevy in a heartbeat.

Hope the rockers work out for you and give you what you're after...have a good one!

Hopefully my last ? regarding the rockers. I looked at Sam's site for pricing and noticed he sells the rockers alone, or a rocker set. Which one would be best, meaning since I would be replacing the rockers, should I replace all the springs etc? Or will I see the benifit with the rocker install alone. Again thanks for the infor and patience.

All you need is the 1.7 roller rocker set you
do not need to replace the springs to get the
benifit of the rockers.

They will give you more lift and add about 4
degree's duration to your cam. They are rated for
5500 rpm and your limiter on a V6 is 4800

I have the expensive rev kit in mine and ofcourse
differant springs but I have no rev limiter on
the ASE I was running or the mopar PCM I now run
I shift a 5200 at WOT

Go for it you will not be disapointed not even a
little bit its a great mod, more power accross
the entire rpm range starting at 1800

Currently I don't have any stock v6 covers-- last order I had to buy new covers, then mod them---

I can do new covers/modified/coated for $100-$125 depending on color, and send me your old cores-- OR-- Send me some covers and I'll mod/weld them and coat for $75-$100 depending on color (metallic colors/2 process run a little more). Also a good time to do a TB bracket/ac-alt bracket at the same time!)

I've got 2 sets of v6 covers out that I haven't yet received the cores back :( and a couple v8 covers the same thing-- I have never charged core charges to anyone-- but if these don't show up soon, I might have to :( Not having the cores to get other orders really slows things down, and makes it expensive.

I have a simplified installation routine, that anyone can do-- plus, I am working on a install video that I'll have in QT format on my website, showing how to do it (will be on a v6, but will apply to both v6-v8s).
