Just out of curiosity...what is everyone getting for fuel economy on their Dakotas? I have a '97, 3.9L 4x4. It is pretty much all stock. Currently I'm getting about 15 MPG city and 17 Hwy. I think this is a bit low but don't have anything to compare it to. Does anyone want to comment?

I get between 18-19 MPG on every fill-up with a mix of city and highway driving. On long highway trips, I get over 20.

I average 11-13 in the city and 16-17 on the highway. I recently got 18.5 coming back from N.C. I own a 2000 V6 Quad Cab with several upgrades in the air intake and exhaust areas.

Looking for better fuel econony? I switched to synthetic oil, atf, and gearlube and my mpg went up over 10% from an average of 18 mpg to about 20 mpg. This is a pretty good measure since the company I work for has it's own pumps and measures the mpg for our fleet trucks. 2 years on non synthetic and the best I ever got was 18.4 mpg and 2 years on synthetics and the best I got was 20.6 mpg.

I get about 18-19 with combined hwy/city driving. And this is really city driving, rarely out of 3rd, traffic controls every 2-3 city blocks, etc. On an all freeway trip I get about 22 or a little better. This is on an unmodded 01 V6 Quad Cab 4x4.

Thanks for all the replies. It looks like I'm in the ballpark...a little on the low end but not in too much trouble. I'm thinking it is time for an ignition system replacement. I have about 100,000 miles on the current plugs, wires, distributor cap and rotor. The plugs are Bosch +4 Platinums. I'm thinking that the Autolites are appealing as numerous posts on this site reference them as superior. Just can't decide if I want to go with the regular Autolites or the 3923's that are a heat range cooler. Any suggestions?

I've also been running with Valvoline synthetic since I purchased the truck 6 years ago. The first thing I did when I brought it home from the dealer was change the oil to synthetic.

Switch to the AMSOIL line of Synthetics for even better fuel economy and be sure to include the differential and transmission while doing so.

All the posts here mention mpg's, but no mention of the tranny stick or auto. That in itself can make a big difference mileage.
