Subject: M1 for V6's???
IP: Logged

Message:
I have read alot of posts regarding the M1 intakes. Is this or will this be available for our daks? And if so, would we see improvments from this addition? And lastly, with my current mods, would I notice any gains in hp/ mpg by swapping out to headers? Thanks for the replies..

There are no intake manifolds for the V6's. Some Dak owners with a Superchargers have been honing their stock manifolds but with what you have it would only hinder your performance not help you.
As for the headers yes you will feel a seat of the pants difference in HP but as for MPG I don't know. I think it depends on how heavy your right foot is. I have Airaid intake, 48mm F&B throttle body, MSD wires, autolite 3923 plugs, brass cap and rotor, JBA Headers, and a 3" Dynomax catback system that will soon be a 2 1/2" Borla muffler and a custom bent pipe. With the above setup I recently got 18.5 MPG on the highway going 72 MPH. If your interested contact John of Southeast R/T on pricing. His email is john@southeastrt.com

There is actually a 4bbl intake that was out for the 3.9L carb'd trucks--- I had a line on a few, but sold them. You COULD possibly configure it for fuel injection, it would take some machine work-- it was a single plane intake manifold-- plus you'd need an adapter from 4bbl to 2bbl (similar to what the 4bbl-M1 for the 5.2/5.9 uses).

I had one of those as well. Never had seen anopther one. Where did you get it from sam?

Was going to machine it for injectors but even with a huge 2bbl adapter the plenum volume would of been way too small.

I saw someone looking for one-- I ended up getting 3 of them, OEM new-- from a friend of a friend-- so to speak who actually raced a 3.9L carb dakota in the late 80s...

I sold them about as quick as I had them.

Though the plenum would be small-- you'd find that for the 3.9-- it would be on par with a 2bbl M1 to a 5.9L...

I'll see if I can find more.

Like I told you Greg, its still yours if you want it back.

Sam....if your friend was running it in the "late 80's" it wouldnt have been a Mag intake? Mopar used to make a 4bbl for the preMag 3.9 but the unit I have of Gregs now is from another country.
Seems they put carbs on Mag 3.9's in some other countries.

Naaah.....havent had time to do a damn thing at all.

Was thinking of offering it to Greg (intensedak39) but I know hes just gonna cut it up for the flanges.
I could easily cut the flanges off and fab up a custom intake from there but I really wanted to try and benifit the rest of the 3.9'ers by getting a decent mold made for possibly a short casting run.

I went out and watched some serious street racing the other night.........a 451 Indy headed Duster beat a mod'd EVO by about 4 cars, that was the coolest run of the night.
Got me all fired up again so I pulled the LA 360 block out of the corner and started lookin up the cheapest stroker kits again. lol

Good luck with your 360.

So in your opinions, would a mod like this, swapping out the intake for our v6's, actually give considerable gains? I think I am getting close to the point of no return as far as mods, and I do not want to spend the kind of scratch to sc my dak. Its a daily driver, with a 216 mi round trip trek to work a day. I am looking for the next to impossible, power, speed, and economy. Thanks again to all with their replies.

You know one thing that a guy I know, who's dealing with Bearnd told me recently, if you port match the intake to the head and port match the head to the exhaust manifold or headers, you'll get a pretty good response. It creates a good flow of air through the engine. Seems like a good idea.

Wouldn't want any other!

Port matching will help the flow in any motor,
I did it to my V6 after I got the heads back
from KRC and cut the runner back radiused
the injector holes in the intake every little bit helps.

I port match every B and RB motor I build.

I have another set of heads here that our crank
guy ported for me but I just don't want to tear
my engine down right now after my dyno showing

265/305 and a time slip from Union Grove for
14.4 at 97

I attribute a lot of this to the higher stall torque
converter I run.

Of course I cheated a little by removing the front
drive shaft and axles before the run. I will run this
way until I see snow than I will put them back in.

Stroked Modded to the Max And Loving It

Yes I did all this to a 4X4 its the fastest 4X4
in this area and there are only 2 trucks around
here that can out run me, both have built 360's

Not a ford or chevy around here that even comes
close, of course the other 2 trucks are owned
by my nephews who also work with us in the shop.

Hey J and J Auto, do you want to sell those heads? I just bought 1.7 Crower RR's and I figure it'll be a good time to do all my engine mods I need done. Belly pan, Ported heads, cut the runners back. When you port matched everything did you also port match the throttle body to the intake manifold also? I noticed that my 48mm F&B is a little big for the intake.

No the heads are my back up units not for sale.
Just go to a bone yard and get a set, that's how
I got mine.

Yes I also matched the TB 48mm F&B as I said
every little bit helps.

You lose a little low end cutting the runner
back but you sure gain over 2500. With my
stroker its hardly noticeable at all.

I think my plenum is also starting to take a crap
shes a little rough when I start it cold but it
clears up quick so I think I have some time on
that yet, I am trying to locate the billet Alm
unit not the stock mopar when I do it.

Go with the 1.7's first,

First get more in than worrie about the Exh.
headers after reading yor post you already
have the rest of the exh. set up ok

I know what you mean about the Mod Bug, we do a
lot of work for a off road racing team and they
run all dodges, after seeing what they did to
there trucks is what got me started.

They have a straight line Dak mud racer with a
V6 running 90% nitro methain, and a blower, I
was told by Jack that this thing is pulling like
400 plus HP.

He took me for a ride in it on there test track.
I know for a fact it will blow my Dak away easy.

400hp V-6 Dak? Right on. I want to go for a ride. pbxr, I've had the mod bug for 5 years on this truck. Little by little I'm getting to where I wanted to be on Gen 3 Dak. I've always liked the older Daks but in 97 when they came out with Gen 3's I decided I was going to build one of these trucks the right way. I've learned more from people like J and J and Bernd than anyone on the net. These mods do work but they all come together when they all are done. People change out intakes or do the pully thing and get pissed that they didn't get enough Hp out of it. Sorry but power and suspension mods cost a little if you want it done right. But it can be done on these trucks.

WOW!! 400 HP, one could only wish, not too practical for a daily driver. Like you Steelwings, little by little, at times I think I do more reading than modding, but thanks to you guys, I learn what to do next. Now I just have to come up with the $$, common story there I guess. I apologize for endless posts, but I like to research as do most of us, before I toss the $$.
Larry when I get them, 1.7's, I will have to hit you up for those instructions, if you don't mind. Nice to trade info with people that actually have done this stuff to their daks.
Ahyaya, more $$$. Thanks again guys.

Greg,
i have a manifold that i am starting on right now... its not very fun cutting those things up, lol. I got this one for $20.50 on ebay and will probably use it for my truck and then use my stock one as a starter in production and then require a core/core deposit when i start to sell em... hopefully by the end of summer/early fall.

Hey guys,

I've been in the process of designing a "tunnel ram" styled intake for the 6ers. You old school dudes know what I'm talking about I'm sure. It's gonna be all aluminum too. Great thing about this is it will eliminate the whole belly pan problem, because there won't be one. I'm hoping by the end of August I'll have one or two done so I can run tests with them. The hardest part of all this is that I want to make sure that everything will match up so it can be a direct bolt on. I'll keep you dudes informed on how things are looking. Once I get a solid pattern to run with I should be able to start producing them. Keep your fingers crossed. ;-) Damn beer keg looking things. LOL
