He want's to turn off the torque convertor lock up solenoid. You will need to look at a wiring diagram to find out where it is located. I have disconnected it on older cars that have problems with the convertor staying locked. I'm not sure why you would want to turn it off though. Your gas milage would go down the tubes and you wan't gain any power. It would be like driving around with a slipping clutch.

Ok, guess I should explain why.

I'm pulling a travel trailer with the Dak. Doing so, I keep the OD off, so I'm driving in 3rd gear ( 2500 rpm at 60 mph ). When climbing an incline, the tranny drop's into 2nd gear which jumps the rpms to 4100-4200. This winds up the little V6 pretty high. I noticed just before it drops into 2nd gear, the torque converter unlocks in 3rd which is about 3600 rpm. I feel 3rd gear without the TC lockup would be enough to get me up the incline, and save both gas and the strain on the engine.

Thats what I would think as well, however I am not a Mechanic. When I'm not towing anything, and approach a incline I give the truck a little gas and nothing. I give the truck a little more gas and still nothing. I have to press down hard until it down shifts to 3rd and then it pass everything on the road, or I run up on the back of someone, then have to let off gas, truck shifts back to 4th in the middle of incline. Then I do it all over again.

Same problem here JayP. I have complained to Dodge customer service about it, but not enough people complaining so they arent worried about it.

The reason the engine speed jumps a couple hundred rpm's when the tc unlocks is because there is slippage between the engine and trans, i would think that it would make it harder to climb a hill. For towing i think i owuld want it locked as much as possible.

I was just reading the torque convertor article on the 4x4wire website. Part of the last paragraph reads:

"While the switch is turned on, however, the transmission will upshift as speed is increased but will not downshift until the converter is unlocked. It will also be possible to stall the engine if you fail to depress the clutch while coming to a stop with a manual transmission."

Hmmm...A manual transmission with a torque converter???? I don't want this guy working on my truck.
