Subject: V6 Cooling Question (Bernd?)

Hey all,

I'm preparing to change the plugs on my 2000 V6 Dakota Regular Cab 5-speed to the Autolites, and discovered something interesting. I know the 4.7L has both the clutch and electric fan, but I was under the impression the V6 had just the clutch fan.

Until I looked into my shroud. Guess what I found? Mounted in front of the Clutch fan is an 8-blade electric unit! It runs constantly when the truck is running, I verified that, but have no idea about the CFM. My manual says nothing, and the Haynes manual I bought (admitidly for up to '99 models) doesn't mention it either.

Now, I bought the truck brand new with 60 miles from the dealer, and now it's pushing 30,000. I recently moved to Florida for school (Living just outside Orlando in Winter Park), and am _really_ thinking of pulling the clutch fan unit off and seeing what happens. I would imagine that it's the same electric fan as goes on the 4.7L, since it'd be cheaper for Dodge to use one fan instead of two. Anyone have any input?

I don't normally haul trailers, but I did just haul a loaded 5'x8' Uhaul from Michigan to Winter Park. The Temp gauge never climbed above halfway, and never really approached it. I estimate it was about 200 degrees tops at 80mph...

Anyone? Bernd? You seem to know the most...
