Subject: Intake vacuum connection

I have a 98 3.9 dak and recently did a cold air intake. While under the hood I realized one (of two) of my vacuum connections coming from the passenger side of the intake manifold was unused, unpluged and sucking in air. So, I pluged it, but the truck wouldn't idle at all. So, I then left it unpluged and the engine returned to the way it was. My question obviously is: What is this vacuum connection suposed to be used for? Why does my truck run well (very well now since the cold air intake, 3923's, new cap rotor and wires, ((borla soon to be installed)with it sucking air (an obvious vacuum leak)?

On the 98 the only connection used on that side is for the PCV valve. The other hole is plugged off. If you can't idle, clean the IAC valve and reset the computer. Good luck.
