Subject: Performance chips?
IP: Logged

Message:
Does anyone know if a chip is really worth it for our 3.9's? I am looking into getting a Jet chip or a Mopar pcm and wanna know what the deal is. I have heard that the gains with a Jet chip are minimal for the price you pay. Is there any out there that are worth it?

I've been using a stage 2 chip, and got excellent low-end response. It accelerates quicker, and gas mileage improved. I'm actually looking to seel my chip though, and upgrading to a Mopar Performance PCM. I'd sell it for $75, if you're interested. It's $300 new. The stage 2 works best with other modifications, exhaust, intake, etc.

ive heard that the jet chip is not worth it because the computer relearns and sets everything back to stock after awhile. I have a stage 2 on my truck and i tend to agree with this i was wondering where to buy a mopar performance pcm anyone know

Yeah I have single in dual out exhaust, an intense stage 3 cold air intake, an iat mod and an f and b tb. So maybe a stage 2 would be good for me. Do you have a link for those mopar pcms?

I am interested in the ASE Chips. Anyone have one? What is the cost? How well do they work? Does it effect the transmission shift points and shift firmness?

I just bought a 2003 QC SXT V6 Auto (4spd OD) w/ the 3.92 rear. I haven't tried towing yet, but truck felt wimpy trying to pass on the freeway on the way home. I know nothing of customizing these things. Where do you get these chips? What do they do to the truck? Does anything else have to be altered? Are they a do-it-yourself install? What do they cost? Any help would be great....I'm just starting to learn.

Don't buy the chips, all they do is alter the air temp. big waste of time, if you can find a mopar pcm for the 97 newer trucks with a 3.9 good luck. if you want the results of the chip relocate your air temp sensor, it richens the fuel mixture. This will work on some trucks and won't work on some others, the proverb has been just to try it. buy a quarter inch pipe thread plug to cap the hole left behind. move the temp sensor into your tube either on the stock air intake or on whatever your running. I've seen the results of this with my shaker hood, on an 80 degree day the air at the cylinders is 125. soooo when you relocate the temp sensor it sees closer to 80 and throws more fuel in. it gave me 2 mpg on highway.

BTW- good hood sucks - they say that the shaker hood won't fit the six cylinder, thier brilliant engineers can't figure out how to mount it. Well proglass figured it out before, and i figured it out from modifying the v8 version. it works just fine. the only other problem i have is that the hood sits to high off the fenders and the hinges wont adjust down any. this resulted in at little bit of at large gap at the fender seam. ok i'll stop rambling

later

MLP,

All I can say is ASE, I ran one for 2 years and
they are a nice upgrade over stock.

Now I run a mopar pcm but they only work on 92
to 95 and they discotinued them.

You would not be satisfied with a jet chip unless
you are just looking for better gas milage and
throttle response. No real performance gains to
be had with a jet.

The 2 dyno test I seen on the V6 with ASE on a
stock set up one gained 15 and 1 17 RWHP a very
noticeable gain.

Around $480 by the time you add the shipping in
so if your serious you need to open your wallet.

Take a look at the Superchips tuners. They are the only real options for the 98-03 v6 trucks "chip" wise short of a custom flash. Look around and they can be found for around $300.
