Message:
I just picked up a 94 Dodage Dakota SLT extended cab with the 3.9 liter V-6, I noticed while driving that each time I come to a stop the oil PSI drops to the low mark and then returns to normal, this happens all the time and never while driving. I would also like to know where I hcan order a new headliner with the matching sun visors.

if your oil psi drops to low when you are stopped and normal when you are driving, then you need to but richer oil. if you were buying 10w-30, buy 10w-40. in essence, your oil guage should go from just below normal at a stop and above normal when you are driving.

prattjr-- dude -- your oil pressure gauge sending unit is suspect- they are crap- or your main crankshft bearings are worn-- to the point the won't hold pressure a new oil pump wouldn't hurt either-- BUT you can go to 10w40 , or 20w50 first and see what that does[ i use 10w40 semi-synthetic] -- it does work but mileage suffers and a slight loss of higher revs horsepower will result also 20w50 is slow to crank in cold weather-- I have also found that some modern oil filters[ fram ] have a anti siphon valve inside and they can block some oil flow-- resulting in lower pressure--it happened to my truck with that one [ the fram-- never again]

hey as I stated the oil PSI is normal at both highway speeds and idle it is just when I come to a stop the PSI will drop all the way to low and then come back up to normal again, when I take off from the light it will drop and then return to normal ( 12 o'clock ) for highway speeds. I'm running 10w-30 oil with STP oil treatment that the old owner threw in, I have yet to drain this and flush the system and reinstall 20w-50, not worried about cold weather in California. Truck has 185,325 miles on it and oil PSI sending unit look orignals if it is on top next to EGR and Dist cap.
