I have a '99 v-6 cc auto that I bought new towards the end of '98. I changed the original champion plugs yesterday after almost 74K miles (they looked pretty worn -out), with the autolite 3923 plugs. The truck seems to idle, and run very smooth now, but my dog dak seems to be even more mild than before. I have no mods on my truck, 3.55 gears and slightly oversized 255/70/r15 tires. I am not looking for good 1/4 mile times or anything just more pep to pass and get out of the way, etc.

The dealership did SOMETHING to my dak about the first year or so(I can't find the paperwork)to get rid of the gawdawful pinging. Is it possible that they reflashed my computer to tune it down? Do I need a 180 stat and other mods to work with the autolite 3923's?. Go back to the OEM plugs? Should I put my tool box/ladder rack on the wife's 300M and give the dog dak to her? Help!

I too am not interested in 1/4 mile times, just want more power. There are some really helpful posts in the 150 or so pages on here. I put a 40 series muffler, homemade intake, and tweaked my throttle body a bit. Total cost was about $140 and it made a good difference. If you have the money, there are a ton of things you can do to get what you want.

Jeremy. I probably will try some of those mods you suggested, I am just a little puzzled by the change in performance with the autolite plugs. It doesn't seem to want to downshift up long grades like it did before I changed them. Definately smoother BUT with less power. I think I will get some new champions to start with. I read something about the DEATH FLASH but after looking up those posts again it appears they were talking about the 4.7 engine. I looked at the pcm and it has a sticker that says authorized update code, but the date on the sticker is before I bought it so it must have always been there. Thanks for the help.
