Subject: Why does it stumble?

I have a 92 V-6 auto w/136k miles and when I crank it in the morning(whether it is hot or cold outside) it sounds like it is camming but has very little power (I can put in drive and will not move on a flat surface) but gradually gets stronger over a min or two. I have an open element Edelbrock air filter sitting on top of TB and cat cut with turbo tube in main pipe going into a Dynomax 1 into 2 duals. Also my powerband isnt smooth until about 2100rpm especially in first gear. I can floor it from stand still and it takes a sec to get to 2100rpm then pulls pretty good. I have 235/75/15 instead of the stock 225/70/15(I think that is stock). Thanks, Joe

When was the last time you had the timing checked/replaced you spark plugs/air filter/oil change/etc?

With the higher miles, it sounds to me like your spark plug may have excessive carbon on them and the first few minutes firing them cleans them up some. If this is the case you may notice a gas smell when you start it up. Start by getting things tuned up and see if you are still having the issue.

also don't forget to check your fuel pressure, you need about 35psi at idle. and since the engine wants more fuel when it is first started cold, i think that might be your problem. do the fuel filter first since it's cheap.

I put plugs, wires, cap, and rotor about 1yr ago. Did the fuel filter and had the fuel system cleaner by the oil change place(I dropped my truck off and I dont think they really did it, but I raised hell and got another done free for my Aspire). I've never messed with the timing cause Chilton says its done by the computer. Im going to adjust my idle tomorrow. I played with it a while back to give me a lower idle so I can leave it idling and not burn much gas. While adjusting it, Ive noticed there is a long range of TB adjustment where the idle doesnt change. I think maybe the computer is doing something. Same thing on my car, when the computer senses the idle is too low it compensates somehow. One time I had the idle on the Dakota all the way down and you could feel it in the gas pedal. I think maybe this tinkering witht the idle has messed with some things. My cats are cut and I can smell a diferent smell in the morning when first cranked. I like the cam sound it gives off, I just dont want it to hurt anything.. Thanks

do the "Key Check" method to check for any engine codes like "Speed control sensor". This code normally doesn't set off the check engine light & won't create torque converter lockup.

Not moving sounds like a tranny issue like the torque converter not locking up. Might try changing tranny filter/fluid, Normal recommended 40K mile maintenance. Filter could be partially clogged/Dirty and not geting enuff fluid when it 1st starts up. Filter & gasket set runs about $7 at any Auto parts store and get MOPAR ATF+3 or +4 fluid depending on year from your local "Friendly" Dealership.

Hope this helps,
Shank

I did trans filter and oil a few thousand miles back. It seems more engine related. I cleaned TB and upper ports of intake today. The TB is extemely dirty. But how??? NOthing but clean air moves by it. Thanks, Joe
