There is a recall on the clockspring which may create an open circuit in the airbag system. That is most likely your problem, so it should be fixed for free.

An aftermarket exhaust will in no way cause a cat to go bad. If your dealer starts giving you crap, ask if he is aware of a federal law that says even if the thing is modified, as long as the modified part is not bad he still has to replace it. Since you did not modify the cat he has to replace it. Could someone help me with the name of the act that says this?

Slopehead ...the name for the act is the Clean Air Act.
here is some information that maybe helpful:
Section 203(a) of the Clean Air Act (Act), 42 U.S.C. 7522(a), prohibits removing or rendering inoperative automobile emission control devices or elements of design and prohibits the sale or installation of any device that bypasses or renders inoperative emission control elements of design. Prior to the issuance of the aftermarket catalytic converter enforcement policy (51 FR 28114-28119, 28133 (Aug. 5, 1986); 52 FR 42144 (Nov. 3, 1987)), the manufacture, sale or installation of aftermarket catalytic converters not equivalent to new original equipment (OE) converters violated Sec. 203 of the Act.
However, current EPA policy allows aftermarket converters to be manufactured and installed, under the conditions that the converters meet certain specified standards; a converter may be installed on a vehicle only if it is the appropriate type and size for that vehicle.

PS the fines are very expensive!

my old man is a welder. we cut off the cat converter and i drilled into into it with a large and long drill bit. eventually i was able to pull out all the metal meshing and ceramic crushings until all was removed. we welded it back into place. sounds better and no hold back. only negative... pollution is bad when first started, you can smell it but goes away soon. positive...power is totally noticeable.
