is this a good transmission?? also if iw as to change the gears in my truck, what else would i have to do to it?? change the speedo somehow, maybe computer?? im not sure

Yes, the 42RE is a good transmission. You can do the usual to make it better. All automatics like oil coolers...the air exchange type, not the water exchange in your rad. Use only Mopar ATF+4 in it. You can use a shift kit to form up the shifts but your bands and clutch plates may wear faster.
Gearing doesn't affect the speedo, the sensor is on the dif housing. Changing tire sizes will require a flash to the CTM.
