I have a F&B Aluminum Billet 48mm TB. I thought this had the most performance out of the V8 TB and Fastman TB. But I must say it was the most expensive. For slightly less power improvement and better cost savings, the V8 TB works well. The Fastman TB is good product as well with a core return. Good luck.

I'd like to see some duno numbers for the f&b vs a fastman tb. I highly doubt the 48mm f&b ,akes enough extra horsepower to justify the extra 150 dollars or so over a fastman. If you really need the extra flow the 48mm f&b puts out over the 46mm fastman, just upgrade to a 48 or 50mm fastman for the same price. Spend that extra 150 bucks on a good cold air intake, or put it toward the cost of the new superchips micro tuner.

check out the fast man tb's at www.thefastman.com 250 bucks shipped to your door including a new gasket, s bolt, and stainless butonhead tb attaching bolts.

Just noticed you had a 97, as of now the superchips tuner is marketed for the 98 and up trucks only. We will be doing testing to see if it will work with the older obdII applications as well (96/97)

I think this is a statement that needs to be addressed--- Take the core charge out of the equation and this price difference is nil. Performance wise, the 48mm F&B was designed around the 3.9L--- it has the correct flow characteristics-- not just CFM. No turbulance area that the stock TB has around the idle port-- Slapping on a large TB to gain CFM to match what the F&B 48mm does isn't going to do the trick I am afraid.

Not to crumb on Dan's work, as it's the best stock ported stuff out there-- but the F&B has it's place, and yes it costs more, but you get more. Is it worth it for a few extra HP/tq??? Well-- here's what you get--

A brand new, billet TB with new precision bearings (not used) and polished billet finish, -- billet airhat nut/K&N stand off, all new stainless mounting hardware, new mopar TB gasket, complete installation instructions, lifetime factory warranty-- AND a 30 day return policy-- you don't like it, return it for a full refund.

Simple as that-- No Core charges... Only thing to make it easier, would be to include the tools to install it.

Thats allways brought up in the ported stock vs F&b debate. Whats the use of keeping your stock tb? If your main goal is to get a few extra hp out of the truck, then return it to stock to sell it in a year, I guess you would want to keep the stock one. How many people actually do that though? How many dealerships or private consumers are actually going to be able to realize the tb isnt stock when you go to sell? I'm not bashing F&B's work, it is a very nice product but the cost vs gains compared to a stock v8 to or mod'd stock unit isnt worth it in my book. Especially the people out there that just add small mods such as a muffler and cold air intake along with the tb. Even on a very heavily modified 3.9 such as mine it would be hard to see the difference. The difference in air velocity lost by moving up to a bigger size ported stocker to flow the same cfm as a f&b would be neglidgeable. Turbulance aroung the stock iac port I doubt is really an issue.

As far as customer service goes, dan offers all that as well. If you arent happy with it, he will make changes to make you happy or refund your money, thats the bottom line.

Its all up to what you personally want.

All good points. Again, it's not for everyone (heck, I help work for F&B, yet I still sell stock non-ported V8 TBs....)

I guess it comes down to getting the MOST you can, and that's were the F&B is. I'll have some dyno numbers for the Stock to mod build up for people to check out (hopefully before July)--- and it'll show what the F&B will do.

There are dealerships that DO give people flak for having a modified TB (I have 2 people that I know that have encountered this recently-- warranty repair, on a NON Chrysler aftermarket warranty-- and they are like HAWKS-- rep pulled off the airhat-- the one saw a non stock TB and BOOM, no more warranty-- The other had an F&B, they questioned it-- but surprisingly-- let it go after noting that everything was there (all sensors, linkage, etc)---

I've had many people get smogged in CA with F&Bs (and they never even questioned it)-- So, it CAN go both ways for either F&B or a modified TB...

It's always best to have your stocker though--- Just in case.

I think any TB mod you will notice by the seat of your pants. All TBs swaps have advantages and some negatives. F&B (I think the most power gains, brand new, AL brushed billet and designed for 3.9L but the most expensive), Fastman-ported(I think just about same power as F&B and cheaper but re-condition V6 TBs), V8 (good improvement over the V6 TB, cheapest) This is what I had gathered from reading most of the TB threads.

I think you will happy with any TB change. Just do it!!! and have fun!!! There is a different TB for everyone. LOL

are we all in agreement?
F&B, or Fastman, or V8 TB (in that order), however get rid of the V6 TB.
good! i'm glad we have resolved that issue.
now anyone for exhaust?
dual or single?

Warranty issues? I'd like to see a dealer get away with yanking a warranty for a throttle body change. They use excuses like that but they can't legally void the warranty unless the mod CAUSED the malfunction. I don't see how they could make the argument that the throttle body CAUSED a malfunction like a blown engine.

Anyone else got a take on this?

Exhaust?

Quote from speedtweaks.net
"...the single exit systems were slightly better than the dual exit systems...on the Dyno and at the track. The reason for this is that on a single exit system, the exhaust pulses don't fight each other on the exit."

I tend to believe this. Also, dual for a 3.9L is overkill as are aftermarket pipes.

okay single that works for me.
now what are we talking, 2.5 or 3.0 inch in/out pipes, and what do you think about manufactures, Gibson, Flowmaster, Dynamax, Borla.... or maybe a combination?
how about headers, worth it at this jucnture?
now would be a good time for part numbers if they are known.

Dynomax #17748 seems to be the consensus on the best sound and flow for the 3.9L. Others may argue, but you don't want anything too radical or you'll sound like a lawnmower... or even worse... a Honda!!! :o

Just a little louder than stock and no buzz. DakotaDan sent me a sound clip if you want to hear it. I'm pretty sure I'm gonna bolt one on my rig sometime soon.

I think sticking with the stock pipes would be sufficient as 3" would be overkill for a 3.9.

I have done a dyno with the F&B over the V8 TB

Its about 4HP more with the F&B and about 10 more
foot pounds of torque and better response.

Yes worth the money.

Yes, the F&B is better than the V8 TB... but do you plan to do a dyno comparing the fastman and the F&B? Can you post the dyno sheet so we can see the power curve?
