I was just wonding about how much power (hp) would I gain with removing the stock fan and replacing it with an electric fan? Is it worth it? I already have the new fan, but I came to a halt when it came time to pull the stock fan off.
Autozone and Napa only carry tools to remove Ford fan clutches! ! F O R D ! ! ! ! Why god why? ! ? ! ? ! ? !

I still have Pep Boys! Hopefully they have one

I did it when I had my 97 5.2 quite a nice gain. All you need to remove the fan is a 1 7/16" wrench.

I removed both. All you need is a 1 7/16" wrench and a hammer. Leave the belt on, there is a nut at the back of the clutch unit all you have to do is loosen the nut. Just put the wrench on there and give it a couple of whacks with a hammer usually comes loose. Just spin it off no more fan. Don't know which electric to reccomend you though.

When I tried to loosen the fan clutch from the pull a few days ago, it just spun the water pump pulley. I even tried pulling against the surpentine belt like the book (BIBLE) recommends!
Just hit it with a hammer? Kinda like an impact wrench?

I have a nice electric that I bought at the local Autozone. They carry some new brand..looks like those Flex-a-lites but cost only $75 and you can buy a manuel switch or a thermostatically controlled one for it.

i reoved myfan when i installed my underdrive pulleys. man i took me forever t get a bigenough wrench o fitthat fan and when i got mine off i used a screw driver and had to hold the water pump pulley(between 2 of the screws)it worked but i really didnt get any gain out of my underdrive pullys i dont reccomend them to anybody(gt the 3 pulleys set) all it did was make my alternater run low at idel and rpm's run about 200 lower at idel. anyways good luck IntenseDak39 with that electric fan.

n8 dawg, take that the pully you put on the alt back off. the only thing that thing will do is SLOW your charging system down. If it slows your charging system that mean, less fuel, less spark, less power to your ECU, get-it. With injected vehicles you need to have your charging system in good working order, cause if you dont the comp go's into a kind of a limp mode. That is why you did not get any gain and your idle fell off, hope this helps.
INTENSE, get a long screw driver or a pry bar, and place it in between two of the pully bolts. Next get a wrench that will fit that BIG A-- nut and turn it counter clock-wise. What you might try to do is get a propane torch, like plumers use and heat the nut up a little, just a little. and it should come rite off.
And yes you will feel a diferance. And it will make the engine rev a lot faster. watch the red-line.

his pully is most likely pressed ...thus having
no bolts, but it will still have bolt holes, just get
two bolts and put them in the holes, and do as
roadracer said...I never had much trouble
getting the fan off..sure you turning the nut the
correct way? =P

roadracer my alternator runs at maybe between 10-12 at idel but is normal once engine is around 1000rpm's. and you cant put the stock alt. pulley back on b/c then the belt will not fit they increased the size of the alt. pulley, and the water pump pulley and reduced the size of the crank pulley. i could tell a lil diff. in the acceleration but is still not worth $130 to me.

Little tip....

Put a master switch in the cab for the elec fan that way you can turn it off when you make a run.

I have a thermo and a master switch, nice to leave fan on when trucks off, fan keeps runnin and a few miniutes later truck is cool. Well cooler than fan not runnin at all with truck off.
Need good battery though.

Forget the hammers and prybars....to remove the clutch fan, use the right tool and get a clutch fan removal tool...they are cheap and nothing will get damaged. As for hp.. the underdrive pullys will raise hp only 5-8 hp. Any increase in hp helps, but the only drawback is a slight reduction of the charging system @ idle. If you want hp get a supercharger like I did...you will see the difference, but its a lil costly..any ?? email me. topshowcar@yahoo.com
