I AM GETING PIST OFFABOUT ALL OF THES GUYS DRIVING AROUND IN THERE, GO SLOW, SOUND LIKE A BEE IN A BEERCAN, HI REVING, NO POWER LITTLE HALF A ENGINE, GO FAST WANTABEES.
yesterday i was driving my truck around town. when a honda civic pules up beside me and startes to rev his engine. looking at me like he is going to tare down the road at such a high speed that i will not even have a chance.
to make a long story short we raced three times and i beat him three times.
the car had exhust and intake. thats what he told me. i on the other hand had a STOCK 99 DAKOTA SPORT WITH A 3.9L V6.

i hate imports

I agree with you, a lot of imports are all show but no go, however you do have to be careful because there is the very rare ocassion when a import is actually pretty fast. The bigger the wing, and the bigger the exhaust chances are the less performance mods they have. I too have a 3.9 with a five speed and most of the imports can't hang with my truck, which really pisses them off.

Hey, a couple of those cars can beat dakotas with V8. The WRX sti can go 0-60 in the high 4's, thats real quick if you didn't know granted that they have all wheel drive. There are a whole lot of slow a$$ imports out there that need the giant wing and body kit so you don't look at the e/t's at the track. Take as many as you want but sooner or later, unfortunatly your gonna run up against a fast one. Believe me on that.

Tired of imports, want to have some fun? Check to see if your local drag strip has a street trophy night. The usual separating point is somewhere around mid 14 seconds allowing most stock to lightly modified trucks to compete with a field of imports. If your truck is consistent, you can send them home again and again. Back in early march I did this but lost to a ram pickup when I broke out on my dial in. It was most fun to send the kids with turbo and noisy blow off valve home after they were revving it in the staging lanes! The last three vehicles were My Dakota, a full-size Ram and an old Diplomat, NO imports!

I cannot stand the little "jap crap" that are scooting around these days. i'm from edmonton and well... we get alot of snow, alot of spring breakup> which is MUD, then we have the dry season which lasts a couple of months a year. So why do they keep buying these little cars? i have the 4x4 quad cab sport '01, and i wont be able to beat them on the streets in summer but i dont mind taking them for a ride the other 4 months of the year.

the thing that really angers me is people trying to turn american cars into those bumble sounding terds. like the NEON, they make an r/t model and the srt/4 leave them american thats why they are made that way. real rides drink gas NOT soy sauce!

there are fast domestics. Lets take the NEON for example. My first gen (95-99) 99 DOHC neon ran stock a 16.291 1/4 with my lard A$$ in it. I bet it could have easily hit high 15's in the 1/4. That was the first time I ever dragged. But, with two mods(mopar ECU and CAI) the car ran a 15.123(not with my lard A$$ in it); I have gotten it to run a 15.403. Even though the riced-out imports look slow, some do have the power to back-up what they display. BUT the no show all go domestics(only the neon really) can hold there own. My little neon has out run a V6 mustang. Given they are piggy cars, it still hand a mustang it's ass. NEVER UNDERESTIMATE THE NEON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

LOL.......as much as I love my V6 Dakota....I'm not close minded, meaning I've learned to like and understand the import scene. Not to talk shyt....but...phillip....how the hell do you spin 1st through 2nd? is it standard? if you are, and that prelude had to have been an auto, then I might believe you "smoked" him. If he was a stick, and knew a little what he was doing, he would of smoked you! Prelude have 200HP at the crank from a FOUR cylinder. At the wheels the prelude pushes 176WHP. Thats what we have at the flywheel! Not to mention he's over 1,000 pounds lighter than us. He's also rear wheel drive which helps him. But that's just my $.02 of course. =)

i know for a fact that my truck will beat a civic vtec, an eagle talon non-turbo 2.0 liter, and a saturn with a cold air, soup can, etc. I have the slips to prove it. your talking about what i call ricers. they're go fast wannabes, but my buddy has a 92 plymouth laser(eagle talon) thats turbo. the car looks stock, but it'll slaughter my truck in the quarter. just be careful and check out who you run beforehand if you have a chance.

My brother has a civic and it sounds and looks nice, but is still just a 4 banger with a loud exhaust. The only time I have been beat by any import is either turbo/super charged or they were juicing it. I have not had the chance to race a WRX though.

Also, everyone is listing all these "fast" imports, when we have one of the fastest "sport compact cars..... The NEON SRT4.. with a stage 3 conversion they are pushing 312hp and 320FtLbs....

OH Yeh Baby- 300HP Dodge 4cyl....

a stage 3 conversion turbo and has twin cams
with 4 valves per cylinder.....that pretty dang
good....and again its a NEON

this debate will go on an on b/w domestics and imports. one side will always say mine is faster than yours or my ___ is bigger than yours. it doesnt matter if this is a domestic or an import forum or anyone out in the street.

if someone revs at you, just forget about it. its not worth racing. there are too many deaths from people f-ing around seeing whos car is faster than whose (esp in southern california).

as an owner of modified 92 v6 dak and a 2003 Acura RSX-S, i have seen the benefits of both types (domestic and import). it is not right to compare apples and oranges.

--->THE BOTTOM LINE IS YOU CAN MAKE ANY CAR FAST...IT JUST DEPENDS ON HOW MUCH MONEY YOU WANT TO PUT INTO THE CAR. You can make any car run 12sec on the quarter mile, you just have to put in the money.

-->And keep the racing to the track!!!

whats great about those "215 hp neons" is that they are dynoing at 223 whp and running 13s.

some imports can be fast... but at a price too, just like everything else. When i had my little import killer (shelby charger) no one knew what kinda car it was and the import scene hadnt hit DFW yet. So i just stuck to mustangs/camaros... nothing like a 275 hp 2000 lb 4 popper running down the big boys.

emeraldakota....i hate to tell u but the prelude IS RWD not FWD lol... what made u think it was.. oh and another thing.. they DO NOT like 130ft lbs of torque, they have a Baseline Horsepower: 178.2
Baseline Torque: 150.5 lb-ft. So if the chink in the prelude actually knows how to drive stick, he'd whoop our ass. I love my truck just as much as everyone else if not more, but keep in mind we have some heave trucks, with a not so strong engine....that dynos about 150HP at the wheels....keep in mind we only have like 185HP at the CRANK. I'm non biased, and I respect the domestics, and yes the imports.

its all about gearing chang the gears in the diff and you can turn even the crapiest truck/car/van whatever into a mean tourque monster conider fwd cars (saturn 5speed manual) ring and pinon gear ratio is 6.2:1 combined with a fist gear of 3.10:1 you have a final 1st gear ratio of 19.22:1 no including wheel size that a lot of gear to get up and go but they need that gearing to actualy move. but if you change the gears in a rwd diff you can accomplish alot you can take a stock truck with hwy gears say 2.90:1 put some 4.10:1 and you will probably get the front wheels off the ground a little
