I've been getting a loud knock/rattle sound from somewhere in the engine compartment. I thought it was the tensioner, replaced it, no dice. The sound is coming from around the cooling fan, but upon inspection, it doesnt' seem as though the fan is hitting anything. Any suggestions?

i have a 99 3.9L, and i had a small knock to. i guess they have a sludge build up problem, my friend had his motor blow because of it. i had my mechanic run a oil system cleaner through it and it cleaned all the sluge out, i cant hear a damn thing now. if thats not it, it could be a bad belt. thats all i know, if someone else knows let me know.
