Subject: V6 or V8? I need to decide by tomorrow!!

Whats up guys. I am looking at getting a Dakota very soon...like tomorrow...but I have a dilemna. This truck is going to be for work, and work is going to be paying me a $300 month truck allowance. I wish I could get a v8 4x4...but they wont pay for gas mileage on a 4x4. So I have two options pretty much.

I have two trucks I am looking at. One is a 2001 v6 2wd extended cab. It has 50,000 miles on it. Its an extremely clean truck. Its lifted (i think about 2") its got the nice little screen on the ceiling that shows mileage and everything. Its got the wider center console which I need because I use my laptop all the time in my truck. Its white with clear lights, and just looks very very clean overall.

The other truck I am looking at is a Dark blue 2000 4.7 v8 2wd. It only has 36,000 miles on it. This truck is pretty clean too. Its got a billet grille. Stock Height, doesnt have the nice little milage screen or garage door opener buttons, and it also has the skinnier center console which is kinda a big deal for me because I use a laptop in my truck all the time.

Overall, Id say appearance and interior the 2001 V6 is a better looker. I love the looks of the v6 a lot. On the other hand...I love the 4.7 engine. It seems that they both get about the same gas mileage, so thats not too big of an issue. From you V6 guys, it seems that the truck doesnt have much go to it at all, and I like to be able to get on it a little bit. OVerall what is your opinion on the v6 truck?

You guys let me know what you think. I really need to hear from all of you V8, and V6 guys and tell me what you think. Is there a lot of stuff you can do to the V6 to give it some ummpphhh? God...I dont know what to do. I usually would opt for the 8 right away. But I already have a 78 corvette that will be my fast car, but I still dont like driving trucks that dont have some get up and go...let me know what all you guys think.

i have a 4x4 so the 2wd guys might get chocked but go with the 8.the six sucks.unless you want to mod it.the six is a strong and proven engine but needs allot of work to get to keep up with mini vans.the 4.7 have there probs too, look back and do research on very common probs with our trucks and you'll bet you'll get em too.can't help that much but i wish i had the 318 really.hold off for what you want, trust me on this.if my truck was quiker i'm sure i can overlook allot of problems, but mine is a great looking truck with the quality of a k car and as fast as one.

If this were gonna be for racing or for recreational use I'd tell you to get the V8, but this truck IS for work so get the one that's got the features you're needing for work. You won't need to kick anyone's ass while on the job anyway. You'll just get fired if you get caught (or fined like crazy for street racing). Besides, the V6s aren't THAT much slower than the V8s.

Well thanks for the replys guys. I guess I failed to explain this correctly. My work will be paying for this truck, and I will be using it for work. But I am a manager for my dads company. So this is actually going to be my personal truck as well. So I want it to be to my liking. Well...after long thinking and testdriving both a few times, I realize now that theres no way I could drive the V6. It has no balls at all. I love the 4.7 motor, especially with the flows. I think Im going to have to go with the V8. I could always throw a little lift on that, which would be much easier then trying to give that v6 some balls.

Well, in that case as you've already decided, you better go for the V8. =P

The V6 has no balls??? Maybe you need to learn how to drive! The 4.7 is a sorry excuse for a dodge V8...if you want balls out get a 5.9, the 4.7 is a glorified V6. Good luck!

Which ever truck you decide to get be sure you get the 100000 mile extended warrenty on it. Make sure that it's through the dealership & not some aftermarket warrenty. It'll pay for itself in the long run no matter which one you decide on.
