Here is my problem. Im building a custom box to replace my center console for my 2001 regular cab. I have the box mainly built already, just waiting for the sub to arrive to finish the project. Anyways the total airspace of the box is 1.3638 cubic feet. THe sub I bought is a 10 inch Rockford Fostgate HE2 RFP4210. I want to port my box in the front. Take a look at the picture an you will better understand. http://www.cardomain.com/member_pages/view_page.pl?page_id=340525 A friend told me with the airspace I have, a 3 inch diameter pipe that is 12 inchs long will be required to port my box correctly. I have only 9 inchs of space to fit a 10 inch sub so I cant place the port on the wall with the sub, supposedly where the port reaches its optimium performance. I want to put it on the opposite side of the sub, but I heard that it really isnt best if it is put there. CAN SOMEONE WHO HAS THE KNOWLEDGE GIVE ME SOME ADVICE ABOUT THE PORT JOB??? Thanks

ooooh man i hope this helps you cuz i already had it all written once and the computer froze and i lost it. but n e ways here it goes....according to Cruthfield magazine (or crutchfield.com) the recomended volume of cubic feet for your subwoofers is .375-1.75 (sealed box) or .75-1.75 (ported box) so as you can see there is some overlap so if you wanted you could just make it a sealed box and not have to worry about your port problem. and the way you are thinking about puting in your port isn't the best idea, i can't tell you what would happen cuz i dont know but i wouldn't do it especially since your box could be sealed and still act properly. And about the 3" by 12" port, i'm not saying that it's wrong at all because i have no idea but they ARE different for each subwoofer and for the application of them. In the manual that came with your subs it should tell you what the port size and length should be. I have two VEGA15D4 subs and with the manuals that came with them it gives a bunch of different sizes and shapes of ports and to what length they should be cut. If you have the manual look through it once they should be in there somewhere. i've looked on the net a little bit and couldn't find n e thing 4 ya sorry. oh yea just a tip when your putting in that port, remeber that a port needs to be at least 3 inches away from everything. so it has to be placed 3 inches away from n e walls, there needs to be at least 3 inches of clear space in front of each opening (inside the box and out) and make sure that you seal EVERY crack on the box with some type of caulk or liquid nails or something even around the terminals and ports and the subs should be sealed with something too (mine came with a gasket thing so I don't know what else to use) and i know i forgot something else i thought was important but it got deleted and i can't remeber what it was if i think of it ill let you know. hope some of this will help you and good luck!
