I've got a '94 dak with 175K miles on it. I am finally repainting her right now, but want to give her a bit of pep under the hood without losing the right half of my backside. Anyone got any cost effective means to spice up the engine without totally killing gas mileage and having to take out a loan. The ol girl runs pretty good now (when she's warmed up)- just want to get her running a bit stronger and a touch smoother. Any and all suggestion are welcomed.

Just a tip. If you own a 93 or newer Dakota, the best cheap headers to get for more power are the stock headers off of the 92 Dakota. If you don't believe me check out this link:

They have a few good tips that are fairly cheap and good for a performace boost.

Free flowing muffler, cold air intake and a V8 TB.
You will see the difference in those few mods.

Well there are a few things to spice up the performance of your Gen II , The mods are pretty simple and relatively cheap K&N filter drop in will help some about 40 dollars I went with the FIPK open element air cleaner and it runs about 150 dollars,The V8 TB runs used about 50 dollars,MSD6a runs about 150-175 dollars,MSD Blaster coil is 45 dollars.Crower 1.7 RR run about 275 dollars.Flowmaster 50 DF Exhaust or Equivalant runs about 200 installed. I have all of these mods and still get 18.5mpg on the freeway at 75-80 mph can't drive no slower due getting ran over on the freeways around here. But do as FASDAK says and you will see good improvement with those mods and not break the bank.GOOD LUCK and have FUN. I have 99900 miles on mine and she still running strong

I have a 94 3.9 all so I have the JBA headers 19# injectors Flow Master 40 single exhaust F&B throttle body, just buy a V8 throttle body a lot cheaper and works as well. Don't waste your money on a jet chip I took mine off a long time ago.
