i took my truck up to a dodge dealership(one i hadn't gone to before) to try and give an estimate to what was making this rubbing, popping noise somewhere up front. I already knew what the problem was, i just was testing the mechanic to see if he was a moron or not and to give me an estimate. GEEEZZ, the guy comes back and says oh yeah i think its the right braking system. What an idiot. It's the intermediate steering column shaft, nowhere near the right brake. So much for the mechanic being smart. Then i flat out tell em its the intermediate shaft and he says nope, it cant be. But what he doesnt know is that i had an estimate last year on the problem and that dodge dealership told me i was right. People on this board were the first to give me that answer, and it is right. Now onto problem #2. There is a clanking noise up front as well, which from posts hear says it should be the timing chain(i already replaced all belts). The mechanic comes back and tells me its the water pump!?! I started laughing at him. He was like yeah thats your problem.

Sorry for the ranting, i am just so pissed at these dumb mechanics who think the average joe doesnt know what he's doin. Point being dealership service's suck.

Cal you'll find good mechanics and bad ones. Just stick to the ones you know are good. I was called to a Ford dealer check out a head on a 460. It seems the mechanic twisted off a exhaust manifold stud. So how do you remove the stud? Simple ! You use a cutting torch. Of course in the process he burnt into the exhaust port destroying the head. He told me it was the only way to remove them. After a rather short and blunt conversation with the service manager and owner, they agreed to replace the head and rebuild the other one free.

You probably talked to a trainee that doesn't really know what he's doing yet. Most master techs have an education equivelent to an automotive engineer except for a few math classes.
