My trans finally went out after 180k miles. I had it rebuilt by Allstate transmissions. After a few months of driving i started to hear a weezing sound coming from under the hood. I cant tell where exactly it is coming from but it sounds like the trans. The weezing raises/lowers with the speed of the truck. I have been spraying some stuff on my fan belts to keep the from squeeling.I am thinking maybe some got into the bearings on my alternator. But that is wishfull thinking. I just dont want it to be the trans cuz my warranty is about to run out and its hard to trust someone to tell u the truth at the autoshop.

Yes, it turns out that it is not the trans. I found my answer here on this site. It actually could be several things.

Any noise that increases or decreases with engine rpm.

Possible causes:

Low power steering fluid: Check and fill power steering fluid.

The alternator bearings are bad: Replace alternator.

A bad water pump: Replace water pump.

A bad power steering pump: Replace power steering pump.

A bad air conditioning compressor: Replace air conditioning compressor. (Not a DIY job)

So when i found that out i called a friend and he confirmed it. And i got my head under the hood and the noise is coming from the front of the engine. So its either the powersteering pump or the water pump. I was told to take the belt off of the powersteering pump and start the car and if the weezing noise is still there then it is probably the water pump. But i guess u can take the belt off the water pump too, briefly.

thanks chris,

I do get grinding I thought from the tranny to but the noise start at 30mph thru the whole range untill I slow back down under 30mph and it stops. you let off the gas and it stops put on gas it starts like you say it goes with rpm. humm I'm going out and take it up in rpm while in park see if it reproduces. hey thanks for the ideals.

250 rider,

You may have a u-joint problem or a bearing problem. I have experienced both and this may be were you need to look but also may not be.

I had a bearing go bad in my transfer case after wheeling in deep muddy puddles. Later it got the better part of my front drive shaft u-joint. Both gripes made a wierd grinding noise that was hard to pin point. The bearing problem, the noise would go away after it warmed up, the u-joint noise never went away. I had a custom greaseable drive shaft made for the front and I am gonna do the same for the rear soon. But I am adding the greaseable MOOG's fist.

Hopefully this is not your problem but thought I would let you know what I experienced.

Also a loose air cap on the carb will make the wheezing noise but you probably checked that.

Never late for a Tee time or wheelin with my buddies! Always ready for both!!!
