i am looking for someone to help me put my distributor cap and spark plug wires back to its original setting.possibly a diagram or some simple steps to follow.

Standing in front of the truck, looking at the motor the cylinders are numbered from right to left like this
6 5
4 3
2 1
Your distributor cap, is numbered in the firing order which is 1 6 5 4 3 2 The 1 is labeled on the cap, when mounted on the motor it will be on the left side when standing in front of the truck. Just work your way around the cap attaching the wires, first going to number 1, second to 6 and so on

I recently changed my spark plugs wires twice I thought I might have been sold the wrong ones I also did the plugs and its still doggy and sounds like it has an exhaust leak. had that inspected its fine new cat could a wire be wrong?
My book has no diagram for sparkplug wires just
please help

If you took off one wire at a time, I do not see how it could be the wires.
Did you gap the spark plugs and made sure they are tight??

Mike did you loosen the Dist. shaft and turn it
for any reason?
1st step make sure firing order is correct.
Also take note spark plug wire routing if not
correct can cause problems on these trucks with
"cross firing"
Also remove cap make sure rotor is seated properly
and while cap is off - Try moving the rotor from
left to right then rotating it clockwise and
counter clockwise, Make note of free play (if any)
and post back.

Always mark before removing, and shaft does not
have gear attached when removed. Fits into a slot
in the gear left behind in the block.
