How did he talk trash about dakotas? All he did was ask about a new transmission. By the way, i just had my 99 auto overhauled at 40,000 miles......1170 dollars. (american)

Best route is to have it rebuilt (if still possible). "New" transmissions may have been sitting on the shelf for up to 8 years with nothing updated in them (electronics and updated manufacturer calibrations). With a rebuilt, you can also specify that you want a shift kit installed and they'll do it with warranty coverage (can't get that on a new one).
