I have a '97 Dak with a 3.9L V6, 5-speed, it has 50k
miles and i need to replace my cat. Is this normal? does
any body know if this thing is warrantied? I will also
have to replace the muffler and wanted to know if
anybody has a better suggestion for replacement to
help with power and mpg? Thanks!

It is warranteed by dodge...you could take it to the dealership and get it replaced, but i wouldnt reccomend that, they are just gonna put the same old shiyat on it you have right now. My suggestion would be to 1) if you have the means necessary to weld ie. welding equipment and the skills, to but a carsound high flow cat off of ebay for like 50 bucks and install it yourself. 2) would be to go to your local muffler shop and buy one from them and have them install it. the problem with this though is the price. There have been reports of them charging anywhere from 100 bucks (cheap) to about 250 bucks (very expensive, its where i live, in Naples Florida.)So its up to you. but the carsound high flow cat would be the way to go. slight performance/mpg/sound increase. either way, dont get a factory replacement. good luck man

The EPA requires the convereters to be warrantied. I belive that it is a 8-year, 80,000 mile warranty.
