Dude, I hope it's not your computer. The computer runs the fuel pump and does the spark. Do you know anyone else with a Dak that has the same computer? Check the part numbers and if they are the same you could test your truck with their computer. Those computers cost a bunch. Good luck.

Mine is doing the EXACT same thing, this is some advice from another Dak forum and seems to be a commom problem. Let me know if it works.

"Right below the underhood fusebox, about 8" down the harness is a splice (#115), from that splice, it powers the PCM, Fuel Pump, and Coil. All four wires are Red/white, one comes from the fusebox, two go right back up to the relays, and the fourth goes the opposite direction to the PCM. You will have to unbolt the fusebox, pull it out of the way, and cut open the tape on the harness to find the splice.

I guess what happens is that water gets into the fusebox, drains down the harness, and eventually corrodes the splice into green powder (oxidized copper). You cannot tell if it is bad by looking at it, you will have to cut the tape off of the splice and inspect the connection. If you see and green or white residue on the connection under the tape, it has started to go bad and needs to be re-done (preferably by soldering).

This problem can be very intermittent, sometimes just a single miss while cruising down the highway, sometimes just a long cranking time, mine was even sensitive to temperature (28-40F) and high humidity. The problem in my 94 Dak occurred intermittently 30+ times and over $1000 in parts over a year. Finally one day it just died in Toledo, luckily I was walking distance from Vin Devers Dodge. When I got there, they were closing in 5 minutes, one of the mechanics there said he new exactly what the problem was, grabbed some tools and drove me back to my truck to fix it, AFTER CLOSING TIME! This guy earned every penny CryCo pays him. Never had the problem since, 80,000 miles later.

My 95 Dak just refused to start one day after I replaced my 14x3 K&N with a 14x4 filter. When I was done it would not start! It was just a coincidence, as it turns out, but I sure was confused at the time. I checked the splice as a hunch after I could not get a voltage reading at the PCM. Sure enough, after I cut the harness to get a better look at I thought that the splice looked fine, but I gave it a little tug to get a closer look, and it snapped in half! Up until that time, I never had it die, it never stumbled, nothing. I even drove the truck the night before and never even a stumble.

A guy I work with also has a 93 Dak that had the exact same problems.

The point I'm tying to make is that this is a big problem on 92-95 Daks and you need to check it if you own one. Chances are if you ever drove in the rain, yours has already started corroding."

Yup-- my '95 did the same thing-- PLUS the fuel pump died about a week after the repair-- so be prepared for a multiple problem scenerio.

Mine did the same thing last saturday. Was working fine then all of a sudden nothing. Turned out to be the battery ( about 2 years old ) Mech said that a lot of factory batteries do this and they die all of a sudden. ( Mine was leaking )

my suggestion is that next time pay the dealership to diagnose the problem before you start throwing parts at it, you would have been charged for 1 hour diagnostic time, for 69.50, and you would know what's wrong with it. but i'm a service tech at a dealership so yeah we need the work. but anyway, i would check that connector that is a common problem, sounds like you have an electrical problem inline. double check your asd circuit, since that is what controls that stuff.

Well.....

I replaced the battery, swapped coils, ignition pick up, checked the "splice", and still my Dak will run fine then randomly die. Come back in an hour and she runs just fine. No codes. Plenty of fuel at the fuel rail, plenty of pressure just no fire! I wish I had the $$ to drop it off at a dealer but that's not the case.

Hail Effect pickup on Dist. died on my '95 and did the same thing now that I think about it--- I could barely keep it IDLEING at WOT towards the end.

Any codes being thrown?

UNBELIEVABLE !!! 95 Dak won't start. no spark, no power going to coil. Getting ready to call a tow truck to haul to the nearest Dodge service dept. when I found the post by Dak95. Sure as all hell the splice was corroded beyond belief. It was so bad I actually thought at first it was wrapped with green tape but it was corrosion. Cut them, cleaned them up, reconnected and it fired right up. THANK YOU VERY MUCH DAK95

This was just the miracle that I needed. Came home from vacation, my 93 dodge dakota had set in driveway for one week. Went to start it on monday morning to go to work, turned over but would not fire. I checked every thing by the book and was ready to buy a pcm. 200 dollars just didn't feal comfortable. My neighbor had suggested that I try useing the search eng on my computer and the rest is history. I just wonder how much responsiblity the manufacture is taking for this very poor wiring design. Thanks Al

trhat's assuming that the dealer could even figure out the problem before they replace 5 other things that you don't even need and then charging you $1000....

I am wondering if anyone could tell me which direction the bad splice job on my 92 Dak would be from the fusebox? Towards the front, or rear of the truck? Pictures would be extremely helpful, since the 2 huge bundles of wires coming from my fusebox is abit intimidating. lol

I have been experiencing the same with my 98 CC SLT 5.2... When you jiggle the plug woolah! it fires over but out of the blue one day you will try and start and NOTHING - just turns over. Is this common for this year too? This design is the worst IMHO... It appears that splicing takes care of this problem without much purchasing. I am an intermediate wrencher so I really appreciate these detailed posts.

After taking apart and following the information as described - something is wrong. I believe the 95 and 98 are different. Because I do not see the splice in the wire coming from the fuse box to the firewall. The wires go from the fuse box to the top ctr of the motor and the coil wire meets up with this. I am unable to find wires leading to the firewall from fuse box area. Getting late and need some help!!! Can someone help me out here...Mine is an V8 318
