i have a 98 dakota 3.9 v6. here lately i have been having a little trouble. if i am taching up or running a high rpm and let off the gas, the truck cuts off sometimes. also, when i first start it up, it sometimes idles ruff until i rev it up. when i say it idles ruff, i mean it goes as low as 300 rpm and jumps to maybe 500rpm. it sounds like it is getting ready to cut off. my first thought would be the fuel filter, but the dang thing is $87 dollars (if you can tell me why it is so expensive please tell me). if it is the filter, can i bypass it and put a standard inline filter in place. please shed some light on this. could i be looking at a faulty sensor, or something simple. also, i might add that i cut the cataletic converter off when it finally stopped up, could my o2 sensors be making the mixture to lean and fouling plugs. thanks

Your Dak is an OBD2 system and the O2 sensor past the converter may be telling the computer that it's to rich or something. The OBD2 systems need a converter to run good.

There is also a non EPA approved device that replaces the second O2 sensor to fool the computer in to thinking the converter is there and working.

Never bypass a filter on a fuel injected engine as dirty fuel can clog the injecters. Then you will have a much bigger problem and you will need to spend even more money.

Why don't you do us all a favor and put a cat back on it? That why we can all breathe easier. I hope you don't believe that nonsense about removing the cat = more power?!!

"I took off stuff from my truck and want to bypass stuff, why does it run bad?"

there are a few of us that can not afford to replace a cat when it has stopped up. if you are willing to send me some money, i will surely put one back on, until then it goes without one. it was not for power puposes, it was for financial purposes. you should never assume, because it makes an as$ out of you and me. who is the idiot now
