Subject: My New Engine Runs Horribly IP: Logged
Message: I have a 92 RCSB LE 5spd V6 Dak. At 241K miles, errant stupidity on my part required a new engine. I sucked water into the snorkel tube by the radiator. The water was not high, just created a wake in front of me that made it up to the tube. This happened in August. As of today the Dak has been at the shop for almost 7 months. I requested that my block be rebuilt instead of getting someone elses block I knew nothing about. After the rebuild the engine idles very very rough, like its hitting on 4 or 5 cylinders. At speed it seems to smooth out a bit, but power is low, the same as or worse than before the rebuild. And you can still feel as though one cylinder is not firing. They have cleaned the injectors about half a dozen times, installed a couple of intake manifolds, new fuel rail (once you get water in those they are pretty useless), checked all sensors, swapped sensors off of another Dak they had in the shop, pulled/reinstalled the cam, checked for vacume leaks, checked compression, drained the fuel tank and put in fresh gas, replaced a head (#1 cracked when the water compressed) and probably have done other things I know nothing about. When I blew the engine, it was still drivable. I killed the #1 cylinder. Only indication something was wrong was the loud knocking sound under the hood. Still idled smooth and power, or lack thereof, was the same as before. I know these things have a pretty rough idle and are not known for their awsome power, but there is deffinitely something wrong here. It idled better with a crashed cyinder than it does now. Any ideas are appreciated.
Thanks,
Stephen

Message: I agree, check for vacuum leaks first. They could be anywhere from a poorly installed gasket to hoses. Check everything, even the line to the brake booster.
Good luck.

Message: Sounds to me like the maybe the firing order is incorrect or maybe the fuel pressure regulator is bad and you mentioned that you swapped intakes well there are different styles of the Magnum intake the 92-93 have EGR bosses inside of them and the 94-96 do not plus the 92-93 fuel rails are different also we have a fuel return line as where other Dakotas do not.Plus seven months of being inactive did you replace the fuel filter which is located on the frame rail on the drivers side just a thought maybe something will help you out.

Message: They let me drive it for the weekend. Tinkered with it for a couple of hours. Turned out to be a timing issue. They must've lined on #2 TDC. Oh well, to err is human. Atleast it runs good now. Also, seems all those months of running incorrectly melted my catalytic converter. It was a good excuse for some duals. Truck sounds sweet now. Thanks for the input.
