Im looking for a new tb for my 3.9. I only have one question. Would it be better to go with an aftermarket v6 tb like fastman or f & b or just slap a v8 tb on my engine? I would appreciate any help on this, thanks. -Justin

You're going to get many opinions on this, here's mine. I have the Fastman 46mm TB and am more than happy with it. I think it all comes down to what you want to spend.

V8 swap is cheapest but you have to swap your cable out to a V8. Fastman is in the middle in terms of price, but is a TB thats been reworked (ALOT!) by someone with a lot more skill and experience than the normal guy, and no cable swap. The F&B is the highest in terms of $ but its a completely new piece from the ground up. I believe it's 48mm, no cable swap, but you have to modify your air-hat.

The difference between the Fastman and F&B is small enough that for me it came down to $ spent per gain recieved.

The fastman was having a special for 219$ plus your TB thats on your truck now.(www.thefastman.com). If the sale is over, it's 250$ plus your core.

As for HP, I'm not real big on numbers. But I will say it was my most dramatic mod in terms of GREAT throttle response and a nice smooth, hard pull from idle all the way to screaming. I should have done the TB first, not last!

With the Fastman there are NO mods to do, it just bolts right in. Even if you're not that experienced with tools, you can do it in less than 1 hour.(great directions are included).

When I was going to get the F&B, I talked with Sam at socaldakota and he said the air-hat mod was nothing a guy with a dremal tool could'nt handle. Maybe some F&B owners will speak up and give you more info.

HEHE-- Guess I can speak up--

If you took the off you stock airhat on your Dakota (3.9, 5.2. 5.9- -dakota) you'll see the opening matches the fingers on top of the stock TB-- On modified TBs these are cut down, but still there. On the F&B TB, the top of the TB is round to accomodate RAM airhats, which do not use the cutouts-- SO, on your Dakota airhat, you simply take a file, dremel, or hacksaw blade and trim the plastic rings off to make it a round airhat- The airhat will still fit your stock TB later, it will just need to be snug to prevent it from rotating on top of the tb.

Shouldn't take 5-10 minutes to complete that modification.

If you are running a K&N FIPK GEN II, or round element-- then you don't need to modify anything.

**SPECIAL** Order a F&B TB from me this month (until the 31st) and get a free powder coated TB bracket (Red, Blue, Yellow, Purple)-- while supplies last (plus send back your old black bracket please!) I have gotten a lot of requests for other colors (Gray Metallic)--- which I will run once I get the other bracket cores back.
