 Subject: 180 thermostat

I have heard that installing a 180 thermostat can improve performance...what kind of numbers can i expect with this installation? Also, I dont know what size thermostat i need, i went to advance auto and they didnt have anything on thermostat size in their computer for my truck. If someone could help me out with these two questions it would be much appreciated. I have a 2001 3.9..............thanks -Justin

I did the 180* stat 2 weeks ago. I already had intake, Fastman TB, Gibson single swept exhaust, Jet stage 2 module, Royal Purple everywhere.
My temp gauge runs cooler, but as for POWER?, well I can't tell that much difference. My truck ran outstanding before the 180, and it still does. I think I might notice a little better throttle response, but could be placebo effect? I was worried about MPG, but that seems to be the same.

ur in luck i put one in..got it at napa..well let me tell u this..ur computer doesn't like it to much..gas mileage went down just a touch..problem u have is ur computer was programmed with 192-195 temp range..well when u drop the temp,ur computer thinks it is running to cool and has to drop just a little more fuel in so it will think it is working..180 stat works good for the folks that going to do the engine mods..chips,headers and run premium gas..good luck

i have 2003 v6 dakota I plan on getting a gibson cat back and have already ordered fastman tb. Are you saying wait to do more mods before doing the 180 stat ? What is the best intake to use with the fastman tb ?

Intakes are all pretty close in performance. I live in So Cal so getting C.A.R.B. certification was a big deal for me. I went with an Airaid with a S&B Powerstack filter and removed the rubber flap in the grill area. It is a real nice set up, others say that the intense performance is nice. I think its just a matter of taste. You are going to LOVE the fastman TB!
