Hey Corey! I wouldnt worry too much about the miles, those old pushrod, iron block 6s are hearty, and like anything depending on upkeep will last a while. As far as the timing components, thats where ure ticking sound is coming from. I had my gears, chain, cover and so on replaced in my 96 little more than I year ago, solved the problem. There was a recall on timing gear for the 239 dodge engine. I bought it new in 96 and the timing chain didnt start making noise until I got about 70K on it. Im not a professional mechanic, but I'd say thats reasonable milage for something of this nature to go wrong. Wasnt hurting anything, just making an annoying sound. Far as replacing it, I let my friends little repair shop do it, wasnt that expensive and didnt take long to finish. Let me know if any of this helped. Good luck!

Jake
