Subject: Installed my headers

I just installed my headers this weekend. Talk about the easiest install ever. It took me about 2 hours total and that included letting the bolts soak for about 30 minutes. The JBA's fit really nice and i highly recommend them to anyone. I really seemed to noitce the headers after drving it around for a while. The truck seems to pick up speed quicker in the upper RPM range then before.

Hey, that's good to hear. I just sent mine off to Jet-Hot for their 1300 coating, so I won't get around to installing them for another couple of weeks.

How difficult was it to get to the bolts? I have a 4x4 and can actually see a good deal of the headers from each wheel well. I'm thinking that if I take off the front tires I'll be able to get to them no problem.

Roundboy0 – They were very easy, the hardest part was loosening the bolts to get the stock manifolds off. All I did was put the truck on jack stands to loosen the y-pipe and let it hang down. Then I lowered the truck back down and popped the hood open and took off the 8 bolts (4 per side) and that was it. I pulled the manifolds out through the top and then put the headers in. Tightening up the headers was easy. I used a number 14 socket (metric) if I remember correctly and a wrench because two bolts you can’t get to with a socket because of the way the tubes run. Then I lifted the truck back up, connected the y-pipe and was done.

Mnkybrs – as far as sound goes it didn’t sound different idling, the only time I noticed a different sound was when I would step on it and cruising over 2600 RPMs. The headers did seem to make the exhaust sound smoother and deeper when you let off the gas and let the truck coast or when down shifting.

I paid 303.43 (to be exact) for the headers from www.truckperformance.com They were normally 370 and change but just had a sale a little while ago. Next on my list are the 1.7 roller rockers. So I am guessing that the RR’s should be a nice mod since I now have a full intake and exhaust system done on my truck.

Waterpolo,
Thanks for replying so quick. What do you have after the headers? Did you leave the stock exhaust or did you replace it too? What kind of muffler? Your truck looks nice. Is it Deep Amethyst in color? Clear corners would look really nice on your truck too.
Thanks

mnkybrs -- yeah i have a high flow cat and a 3 inch exhaust too. The muffler is a Vortec (Never heard of it but i like the way it sounds) Its desinged just like a magnaflow muffler. As far as the clear corners go i'm going to buy the new headlight/clear corner assembly that just came out. Someone posted it on here a couple of day s ago, they kind of look like euro lights for the front. I'll find the link and put it here for you. Yes the color is deep amethyst with the silver flames.

Hey waterpolo,

Do you have any pics of your Kenny Bell Cold Air intake set-up? I thought they only fit the 5.9s.

Nice truck......
